Sealed 1991 Topps factory set missing tons of cards

I decided to break open a sealed 1991 40th factory set I purchased in 1991 to put in an album. I love the look of these cards. It filled the box tight but what surprised me is the cards were not in numerical order. Even more surprising was the number of cards missing after I began sorting them. I’m in the 300 numbers and about 40 cards are missing. The set was sealed in cello and taped in four places so it wasn’t tampered with plus the cards missing are no name players. Anyone else ever experience this with a sealed Topps complete set?

Lol. Mystery solved. It seems someone in my house thought it would be funny to hide a small stack of cards from her Daddy.

Amazing.

And I bet she squirrels away jigsaw pieces too so that she can be the one to finish the puzzle!

😉

That makes for a great story.

That was a great prank. I like your daughter.

Factory sets in my experience do not come in numerical order. Takes time to sort them out for a binder

Topps did not; however; the Donruss sets were sealed in groups of 55 cards. And those were in numerical order.

As the father of a little girl myself I have to say I enjoyed reading how this played out.

Only time it’s in order is if it’s a hand collated set.

In 1986(?) I opened the Donruss. I had a double of a pack of 55, and missing a pack of 55. Wrote to them telling them the missing run and received the pack. I have their letter laying around someplace.

I had never opened any of the box sets until this one so I didn’t realize they wouldn’t be in order. I’ve mostly collected vintage through the years but always picked these up and kept them sealed. Thanks for the help. My daughter pulled a fast one for sure. Lol. She’s a pretty good prankster for 11.

Luckily my kids have zero interest in cards. I don’t think they would hide them intentionally either but it’s all in fun. I just have to make sure everything is put away when younger nephews are around otherwise they are fair game to being touched.

great prank. she'd become a HOF prankster if she found a way to acquire a mark whiten hand outside border and place it in there.
