Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi BRIAN,
I think you got a good deal on the lot because it's been listed so many times. Each time the seller has lowered his reserve until it finally sold. I think the weak condition and back damage of the tougher cards, coupled with poor scans that you couldn't enlarge probably turned potential bidders off.
Congrats on getting a good deal, you should be able to double your money by breaking the lot up.

Be well Brian

PS Send me a few scans when the cards arrive, I might be interested in a few....

Posted By: T206Collector
I'll tell you one of the many reasons why -- the only search terms were "UZIT, BROADLEAF, CAROLINA BRIGHTS, and 27 other backs". No reference to T206 or T-206. So, for example, it never showed up on my daily searches and the first time I'm seeing this auction is in this post. That's at least one T-206 collector that you didn't have to bid against. I'm going to have to rethink my search terms to include the rare backs (I usually just keep it at Piedmont and Sweet Caporal).

Posted By: Brian
Well, i got the cards yesterday... and i sent the Tinker UZIT to PSA yesterday fo the same day grading.. since i live so close to PSA, i just got the email from PSA with the grade..

It was graded a PSA 2. I am totally thrilled right now because i was expecting no more than a PSA 1 because of the paper loss.

Posted By: Judge Dred
The PSA 2 grade assigned just reinforces that the subjectivity of these grading companies varies well beyond the point of reason. It's this subjectivity that creates debates about these companies with regard to doing the collecting community a service or disservice.

I realize that in a lot of cases the so called reputable grading companies do a relatively fair job but they should strive to be more consistent in the product/service that is offered. I've had cards hammered by PSA because there was a touch of "glue residue" left on the back of a blank back card. This card doesn't have residue, it has part of the PICTURE/PLAYER IMAGE missing (on the FRONT of the card).

I'm happy that you received a "good" grade on the card but it's a shame to see another "poor/fair" subjective blunder by one of the so-called reputable grading services. Does that mean I'm going to stop using PSA, probably not but I'll only hope that I can get one of the untrained monkeys to push the wrong button on my grading slip. Oops, I apologize to all untrained monkeys because I'm sure a real chimp could probably figure out how to be more consistent in their subjectivity. Oops, I knew I shouldn't have gone down this path but it's just how I feel. If anyone is offended, my apologies, if you agree with me - we're brothers in arms.
Posted By: Max
...I had thought poor Joe's heart had been ripped out, but then I realized that the scar was the wrong side of his body.

On the subject of grading, do they assign different graders to different value cards? Since I've never submitted a card, I have no idea how it works. I presume that someone of great prestige and reknown values the next T206 Honus, versus the newcomer who would grade my Bob Brown dogeared Obak.

As well, whenever I hire an expert in my line of work, the name of the company is secondary to the particular individual qualifications of the expert--his knowledge, experience, judgment, whether it's real estate or business valuation, or any other expert opinion. I would never hire an expert unless I knew the name of the individual, nor would the opinion be accepted as expert evidence in any court (at least in Canada.) It's perplexing so much value in the market is placed on a brand name, when the particular individual's expertise is not apparent to any subsequent purchaser, whether it's PSA, SGC or any other grading service.

Max
Owner of only two slabbed cards, looking someday to free Doc White and Slim Sallee
