Kaneen's 1991 Kahn's Cincinnati Reds Team Set Signed

The Cincinnati Reds have a tradition of a yearly team set, given away as a SGA promotion at a game during the season. The 1991 set was a salute to the 1990 World Series champion Reds, and was sponsored by Kahn's Wieners. The cards included an image of the World Series trophy, and featured the players who brought the trophy back to Cincinnati. Pretty much all of the signatures were obtained by me in person over the years at games or events like RedsFest in Cincy. Randy Myers, who as we all know is a "difficult" person, was obtained through a consignment with a fellow collector who got him for me at his appearance at the 2012 BAT Dinner in NY.

At some point I may pursue completing the additional unnumbered Coaches card. I would also love to find a copy of the "Schottzie" mascot card signed by owner Marge Schott. (If anyone has that card signed by Marge, or the signed coaches card, please let me know!) Go Reds!

Go Redlegs! As far as I'm concerned, cards always look better signed. Seeing your Kahn's makes me wonder why I rarely see the Kahn's cards from the 50s and 60s signed.

Getting cards signed didn't really become acceptable in the hobby until relatively recently (past 10-15 years), so most collectors didn't. Most of the signed 50s/60s cards tend to be Topps or Bowman. Without looking at production figures, (if they are even public) my theory is that they were more plentiful, so they had a greater chance of reaching the rare collector who was getting cards signed back then. There are plenty of signed 1949 Bowmans on eBay right now, but only a handful from that year's Leaf set, and a lot of those are from the football set. I've seen the same thing with Topps/Bowman vs Red Heart, and also Goudey and Play Ball vs Sport Kings, Diamond Stars or DeLongs, though I don't play in the prewar sandbox a whole lot.
