I do understand speaking of yourself in plural form when buying collectables for a group. But in the sense it was used in this post unless more then one person uses your account it makes no sense.
As far as my collecting goal for 2007, it's to expand on my type card collection. I would like to have atleast one example from each set of the various colored D,E,N,T issues that are roughly T206 sized and present nicely.

Posted By: barrysloate
My resolution is to make one great find in 2007. Perhaps a little old lady who is about to lose her home will finally put up for sale her grandfather's collection of 2000 vintage baseball cards- an original collection loaded with tobacco cards, including a Wagner and Plank, several hundred caramel cards including a rich sampling of E107, and hundreds of 19th century cards including Yum Yums, G & B's, S.F. Hess, and many exotic N172 and Gypsy Queens. And I of course will offer her full retail for each and every card, so she will be able to save her home from foreclosure. Happy and healthy New Year to all !!

Posted By: Joann
This is actually a neat thread - it made me think a little bit and focus. I need to stop the see-it-buy-it approach, picking up this and that just because I can think of a reason I like it or maybe could use it. So after some thought my two NYR's for 2007 are:

1) Card related: Try to pick up one team image of the Detroit Tigers from around 1907 to 1910 or so. Maybe HM Taylor, T200, probably prefer the M101-2. If possible, try to pick up a low end T227 Cobb. Both or either of these will require that I settle down and forego some spontaneous smaller and middle buys and be more patient with both money and time.

2) Non-card related: Do at least one or two investigative/preparatory things to try to visit Cuba in 2008. Who knows - maybe even 07? I've always wanted to go, and now I've decided to start looking into it and doing whatever it is I have to do for arrangements. The US may ease the embargo if Castro passes, and to be perfectly blunt I'd like to get there and see it before Starbucks, Pottery Barn, Ben and Jerry's and the rest set up shop.

Not to say that's my ONLY non-card related NYR. But the others are pretty cliche and pedictable, and seem to be the same ones I had last year.

Good thread.

Joann

Posted By: barrysloate
Jason, I know you had no intention of trimming or altering your collection. It just was a funny phrase. It reminded me of a sketch Johnny Carson used to do with Ed McMahon- Aunt Blabbie. Carson's character was a really old woman and McMahon would always say to her "that's quite an undertaking" to which she would reply: "never use the word 'undertaking' around an old person." It's a variation of that theme- saying something innocent that's loaded with other implications.

But here goes anyhow:

I'd like to finish at least one Exhibit boxing set and one Exhibit baseball set.

I'd like to find at least one more obscure Lefty O'Doul card for my collection.

I am resolved to weed out, pare down and otherwise focus my postwar collection, because in looking at it last night I realized it is an unfocused hodge-podge of cards I've accumulated over 20+ years. Nice cards, but lots of stuff I don't really care to collect any more.

If I had a wish list, the 1918 Zeenut Lefty O'Doul would top it.

Posted By: Cat
I do want to focus my collection a bit. That likely will include selling some cards off, but like I have stated before I have a hard time pulling the trigger on selling cards.

I would like to add a "defining" card to my collection....although I don't know what this may be (Cobb w/Cobb perhaps). A N167 HOFer isn't exactly a "collection defining card" but it would do. Cards I may look for include: e90-1 Jax, E Delehanty (not sure which one), Drum Back HOFer. I really am looking forward to REA. There are always some defining cards in Rob's auction.

Lastly, I want to spend less time doing "this." Less time on EBay (I have already cut that a bunch). Less time scouring auctions. Less time on the Board. I really need to maximize my earning potential in the next few years and "this" has been a material focus for me in the last few years so I want to cut back. But, that being said, I do want to go to the National.
