I believe PSA has a 20 card minimum limit.

If everyone just keeps saying "NO" the price will continue to come down.

Any indication of what the turnaround time will be?

If we send in a card today that's 'valued' at $100, and the steam engine of time chugs along unabated, what happens if it takes a year to grade this sub and that same card is then 'valued' at $300? Do the up-charge demons come for us??

They state 150 days...What is that? 5 months?

Vegas-guy 07-08-2022 03:38 PM

Sorry if this has been addressed, never sent in cards personally for grading.

Is the 200.00 limit on the card value being raw? What happens if you have a say 50.00 card but it grades a 10 and is now a 1,000.00 card?

The value is what you think the card will grade....if you are looking at the card, and you honestly think you have a 10 in your hand, then you don't have a $50 card...you have a $1,000 card. When I sub cards, I look at them and predict what I think they will grade. That is how I have done it for years.

Any idea how something like this would be handled?

Would it simply get an 'Authentic' grade (which I'd be fine with)?

Attachment 524279

bobbyw8469 07-08-2022 05:58 PM

Either authentic or PSA 4 (MC).

1880nonsports 07-08-2022 06:31 PM

I have but

a single NS card I need graded. I'll be HAPPY to pay you 30.00 to include it. Just LMK :-)

I have a few I'd like to add if possible.

I have 10 or so to send you

Was thinking about including this, but looks like the value would be too high, even assuming it grades a 1.

This sucker has a problem cut in the upper right area, ruining its dream of being a proper rectangle, but I want to get it inside of a holder. Would I be able to just have it graded as 'Authentic'? Don't want them to give it a 'N6: MINIMUM SIZE REQUIREMENT' or anything.

Attachment 524360

And this 1972 'Dr. J' rookie card is miscut on back (almost on front, too). Would this fit inside the value parameters?

Attachment 524400

Or how about a way off-centered 1973 Mike Schmidt rookie card?

Attachment 524401

Bobby,
Do you have a date in mind that you needs the cards sent to you by? I know this special is over at the end of the month so there is not a lot of time.

thanks,
Mark

I need them by the 25th.

ok, great. Thanks. I have 8 cards coming your way. Will get them out late this week or early next

NonSportDaniel 07-11-2022 12:56 PM

I think that I'll have a few for you as well Bobby, between ten and twenty.

If it's altered, it might be closer to the $200 price. Maybe the submitter believes that to be the case? Or, just call them all altered and save some fees. Test PSA's will to grade.

It's comical PSA has an upcharge anyway on any card depending on it's grade. They also ask the submitter to grade it beforehand when they claim to be experts...

Insert clown-show meme...

:D

I think you're right. Don't think it's altered, just rough. I bought it raw a few years ago and I'd like to have it slabbed. I guess I was surprised that even 1's were selling for +/-$400.

No worries, I have about ten other cards I'll be sending you. Thanks!

No crap!!! And to think....that is what I sold my '4' for not too long ago......Those Paige cards have EXPLODED in recent months.

JollyElm 07-12-2022 04:09 PM

Here are my latest contestants, all suffering from various degrees of off-centered or miscut disease. Do you see any problems with these guys?

Teddy has a slight wrinkle and is miscut, one of the Mantles has a corner crease, and the centering is bad all around...

I sold a 5.5 in Lee's last auction and quadrupled my investment, so yes those really have hit the sky, lol.

Thanks for your PMs on the other cards, Bobby. How about these 1972 Topps #343 Joe Namath Pro Action high numbers? They're pretty sweet (with one being o/c), so their 'value' (at least the two more centered ones) could very well be an upcharge problem in this sub, right?

Attachment 524937

1) Ted - miscut and wrinkled, 2) HR Leaders - pretty nice, 3 & 4) one Mick with a corner crease, the other with surface problems...

Attachment 526036

1) Willie - beautiful if not for a wave of wrinkles, 2) Laughlin Mick - heavy crease(s), 3 & 4) one Indians 'no dot' variation is nice, the other with a dinged corner...

Attachment 526039

1 & 2) Two pretty nice Willies, 3) (maybe not technically, because there is white visible) miscut Brooksie, 4) O/C Seaver...

Attachment 526037

1) Miscut 'no black outline' Pirates Rookies, 2) decent Thurm, 3) O/C on front, slight miscut on back Dr. J...

Attachment 526038

1 & 2) Two pretty nice 'Broadway Joes,' 3) Hickman 'no green in letters' variation, 4) pretty decent but pushed a bit to the top Gretzky...

Attachment 526040

bobbyw8469 07-13-2022 02:16 PM

No...those are $200-$250 cards at best....they aren't gonna upcharge over an extra $50.

Snowman 07-14-2022 11:07 PM

Nope. Zero interest in paying PSA anything these days to "grade" my cards. They're so bad right now. They're putting complete noob graders who had never even seen a vintage card prior to their training last month on even high end vintage.

It's gotten so bad that I'm now looking out for recently graded serial numbers and looking for severely under-graded cards. They're everywhere. I'm getting PSA 3s and crossing them over to SGC 5s right now. And PSA 1s with no creases or wrinkles or surface issues of any kind that are crossing over to SGC 2.5, 3, and 3.5. It's actually kinda funny how bad they are right now. Don't get me wrong, they still have some competent graders, and occasionally, your card will get into the right hands, but you're playing Russian Roulette right now if you send your cards in to PSA. At least with SGC, they are reliably handing out fair and consistent grades. But with PSA, you can send the same card in 3 times and get a 2.5 one day, and a 4.5 the next. That should never happen. Some cards are on the fence, but no cards should ever be 2 grades off.

I hate defending PSA but there is not a chance they are putting new graders with a month training on vintage at the Regular sub tier. They have plenty of people in that grading room with a lot more experience for that stuff.

I have seen lots of under graded material coming out of both SGC and PSA but SGC seems to be leading the charge on consistently under graded material. At least that has been my experience over the past year or so.

I could show you several recently graded high-end vintage cards, from different submissions, that would make you change your mind.

Not debating that PSA put under graded cards into the wild. What I am stating is that even at the Regular submission tier PSA has plenty of graders with far more experience than someone with a month of training.

I am seeing a lot of harshly assessed material coming from both of them right now but SGC has been hammering vintage for almost 2 years. I know because I am buying that stuff and resubmitting to PSA for bumps. Even when the cards don't bump and simply grade the same at PSA I make money.

bobbyw8469 07-15-2022 07:21 PM

Guys!!! I am getting cards that ARE NOT vintage!!! This special I am subbing is 1995 and older!!!!!

MidnightMarauders 07-16-2022 05:14 AM

Two cards just sent yesterday, 1950 & 1955.

Thanks Bobby!

That's great news!

Curious, were these submitted as separate modern/vintage entries, or does PSA track this way?

Do you happen to know if they require 20 of each type, or can you do a sub of 20 cards, 10 pre-1995 and 10 post-1995?

for that $18 sub, and for the current $22 bulk, it had to be separate. and the current $22 rate needs a minimum of 25 cards.
