Private Signings?

I was looking to see if anyone has information on the Next Private Signing Hank Aaron is doing? I would love to have my 54 Topps card of his be signed. Please if anyone has information concerning this send me a PM or post here

Additionally if anyone knows if Barry Bonds does private Signings as well, if you could also send that information to me. Thank you!

I had that in mind when I posted this, I was upset that I missed it, as I'm not sure how many more signings Hank is going to do. I'm going to reach out to the dealer and see if there's another one coming up.

They try to do one or 2 per year, but that's the only place I've seen him.

It did sell out because they had only 50 spots total. Once the 50th was spoken for they opened up 15 extra spots. If you look under Ticket Pricing all are sold out except "Your standard NON ROOKIE card $349 each" and "Your Rookie Card, Flat to 16x20 or Baseball - $399.99 each".

"50 SPOTS HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT, HOWEVER, WE WILL BE ACCEPTING ANOTHER 15 NAME ONLY CARDS, FLATS TO 16X20 OR BASEBALLS FOR THOSE THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTED."

You might want to contact them for clarification.

I would call. The way the link looks is that some spot are still left for flats, and I'm pretty sure I read last friday that there were still 15 sports left for cards/flats. Worth a check anyways.

mr2686 11-02-2020 09:17 AM

Well, I just called and they confirmed that they sold out this past weekend. Lot of money for the hammer though...glad I only paid 40 for each of mine.

They also did one in September that I got a card signed at, so with the one in December that will be two in pretty close proximity.

They are, by the way, very easy to reach and responsive. I have had good experiences with them.

Saw this post yesterday and looked on web to see if any good Private signings were coming up.....Mike Trout. And yesterday was last day to place order. Ordered one flat and one Oversize flat with one inscription. It is set for late December so I will update next year..

For a private signing? What decade?

mr2686 11-03-2020 07:19 PM

I got him back in 89 and then again in 91. Once his prices went up he wasn't worth it...same with Mays.

Worth it to whom? Aaron sells out every time he appears, and May's would get 500 a pop if he could sign his name. I disagree. Now 400 for Mariano Rivera I just dont understand

mr2686 11-03-2020 10:00 PM

Well you're welcome to disagree...and I wouldn't pay 400 for Rivera either. Most of these guys are pricing themselves out of the market for most collectors. As long as there are people that are willing to pay, that's cool, more power to them. But as you wrote, Mays can't write his name and the last one's I saw from Aaron were getting pretty bad. Everyone has to draw a line in the sand somewhere, and that line is different for everyone.

Actually, Aaron's signature has started to improve again (on most pieces). I am amazed that people will pay his prices for something like balls and photos, though. There is just so much out there on the secondary market for less (and usually nicer, older signature styles as well). Premium items are entirely understandable.

I was able to get my 54 Topps Aaron signed when Tom Orr had a private signing a month ago. You can find his and other private signing on Sports Collectors.Net. Takes a reasonable yearly subscription cost but it's a great site for autograph collectors.

Agreed. Besides private signings, you can also get some player's addresses from that site.

No wonder the signature is a little sloppy. He had to sign it upside down. :D

Yeah, I don’t quite have the hang of posting pictures.

Clearly the signature today is not much like the one then.

Still, happy to have him on my faux 1961 fleer. Have a bunch of the real ones signed and trying to add.

Here is my take on the current private signing market. Back in the 80s and 90s, dealers and walk up customers paid the exact same price for autographs from card show signers. Now with private signings and wholesale pricing, the promoter makes a big chunk of money from retail customers and the dealers/wholesalers get a deal. I have seen some wholesale prices there are 1/3 the retail price that is being asked from the regular joe at some private signings this year. It is insane how much money these guys are making off of us. Also, when the dealers are paying 1/3-1/2 of the retail price, they can price things rather cheap once things hit the secondary market. It’s like buying a new car. The minute you pay retail pricing on an item, you’re never gonna be anywhere close to making your money back if you ever want to sell.
