Challenge the Yankees..how do you know what year?

Posted By: Randy Trierweiler
Hi Claude, good question. I think the only way to tell is by the lifetime batting average. I checked my 2 Cardinals (Groat & McCarver), and Groat's lifetime average on both cards was .293. After checking his stats, that WAS his average after both the 1963 & 1964 seasons. I did notice that my 1965 version has a black "1" in the upper right hand corner in the green area. The card I call 1964 does not. The 1965 McCarver does not have a card number. Can anybody else chime in here?
Randy

Edited to say that the Election to the All-star game in 1964 was added to Groats 1965 card positively identifying the year.

Challenge the Yankees..how do you know what year?

Posted By: Jim VB
Hi Claude,

I KNOW that Yaz's 1964 Challenge the Yankees had his career batting average as .294.

I THINK that the 1965 card had it at .293.

He did not make the 1964 All-Star team, so that notation would not help.

Individual cards from this game are very difficult to tell apart, but I have a complete 1964 game I can always match up against.
