Old Football Board Game - 1900 - 1920's???

Just picked up this old wooden football board game. It's about 20 inches long, 7 and a half inches wide. The owner had some other arcade style games from approximately the 1920's. Anyone recognize this one? I haven't seen one like it before, it's been in his family since original and he thinks this one might be even older than the arcade style ones. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Very cool piece, great pick-up! We don't research football games as assiduously as we do baseball games, but we have catalogued almost 200 football games made since 1890 and this is the first we've seen or heard of this one. We've never seen anything else by The Varsity Game Co either. The graphics do look very 1920s -- something in the rules/directions/results might pin it down to a more specific date. Sorry we can't be of any real help, but congrats!

Thanks for the reply and useful info. I finally received the game in the mail today, and am pleased with it. After having it in person and from reading the rules on the back, agree that it is likely from the 1920's. Pretty neat piece that's not like any I have seen before. A little off topic, but just for the heck of it, here's the other "bowling" sport style arcade game I picked up from the same owner, really classic (likely early 1930's) mechanical style shooter/bowling game. If anyone is interested, I willing be looking to sell one of the two games (whichever goes first) and am open to offers. Thanks.

Wow, beauty pick-up on the bowling game as well. We haven't seen that one before either. Right up our alley, too, forgive the pun, what with the dogs, but inevitably outside of our churchmouse budget. All the thousands of shops and flea markets and yard sales we hit, how come we almost never ever run across stuff this cool?

Thanks so much for the compliments, both are great looking pieces and the bowling one is fantastic and really fun to play! Open to offers on either as I want to move one of them, email me if interested at jeffreyrpotter @ gmail dot com
