DiMaggio & Mantle

Looking for some insight on two balls for sale not far from where I live. Any chance either of these are good?

Painfully common forgeries. Somebody else just posted a nearly identical DiMaggio ball that was forged by the same person.
|
Thank you very much -- I also figured the fact that they both had the HOF year was a red flag.

Out of curiosity, how are you able to tell these are forgeries?

But the Mantle? His M's are more fluid, his t's usually look like a looped l with a line through them as opposed to the straight line given on this ball. Granted I'm not an expert like some of the people on here, but that's what is standing out to me. |
The Ms are no good but also the N is terrible. If the N looks like a U so that it reads Mautle, run. Fast.

I ended up going to the garage sale where these were being offered. I was there fairly early, but the seller said someone showed up an hour early and purchased the two balls. I didn't ask the price, but I think that person is going to wind up being very unhappy.

Tim --
I just meant that it seemed "interesting" that both balls with questionable signatures had the HOF inscription -- I didn't mean that a HOF inscription in and of itself is a red flag. Greg |
Here's an authentic Mantle with HOF for comparison:

Al -- In person autographs are the best, and that one is stunning!
