What kind of publications or magazines focused on early baseball and sports?

Real quick, just wondering what type of sporting publications existed in the early days of baseball that focused on the sport and its players...?

Kind of like what was the Sports illustrated of the Deadball error? How did the game enage itself with a media presence?

Sporting Life and Baseball Magazine were two popular national magazines. Sporting Life was about two things: baseball and hunting. There were also various annual guides, from Sporting Life, Sporting News and others.

There were many sporting newspapers in the 19th century, among them Porter's Spirit of the Times, various Henry Chadwick weeklies such as the Baseball Chronicles, and the New York Clipper. These papers usually covered a wide range of sports and social activities, with baseball coverage often most prominent.
