Since today is the 51st anniversary of HOF Jim Palmer's no-hitter against the Oakland A's, I thought it would be a great time to share a recent pickup which is a signed game ball to his crowning achievement on August 13, 1969.
Here's a toast to Mr. Palmer.
Enjoy!

Now I really feel old. :(

I was sitting in Jarry Park in Montreal that night watching the Reds beat the Expos in extras thanks to a Bench slam. They mentioned Palmer’s game on the scoreboard. I kept the French language clipping from the next days Montreal Journal for a long time.

Not a bad day's work for an underwear model!

Great piece! Your no-hitter collection is one of the great themed collections out there. I love how it combines guys who range from people who are almost forgotten in the history of baseball to the best names of all time.

Fantastic piece here!

Nicely scored program to Palmer's no-hitter, Doug!
I expected nothing less would reside in your collection. ;):D

Very cool. I wish I'd been in the Loge seats. We were in the rickety metal bleachers back of left field. It was bat giveaway promo night and the sound of those bats being banged on the bleachers is something I remember to this day.

The Jarry Park Bleachers were my 2nd home, they were known as Jonesville in honor of Mack Jones who was proclaim the Mayor of Jonesville for hitting the 1st Homerun at Jarry Park

O/T, but, Trivia Time:

Who was Sandy Koufax's all-time NL record 382nd K in his amazing 1965 season?

It would have been the ML record, except Nolan Ryan eclipsed this record in 1973 when he struck out the Minnesota Twins Rich Reese for his single-season 383rd strikeout...

The Mayor himself, Mack Jones

My Palmer story is that I was going to law school in San Francisco in 1988, and found out that he would be signing autographs at the local Macy's to promote Jockey. So I was walking down the street to get there, and did a double-take when I saw him walk right past me! I stopped him to let him know that he was heading the wrong way, and we ended up walking the several blocks together and having a very nice chat. When I got to the front of the line and got my autographed photo, he had remembered our conversation and personalized it with my name and "Good luck in law school."

Guy,
You are correct, sir. :)
Did you have to look it up to figure it out, or did you know this already?

I can not lie.... looked it up, but was happy to see it was Mack Jones

I looked up the no hitter on Baseball Reference, Palmer wanted no part of Reggie Jackson, he walked him three times in four plate appearances.

And on a side note, Jim Palmer never gave up even one grand slam in his lengthy career.

Poor quality pic but that's my wife and I with Palmer and my twin sons at a Jockey promo in downtown Houston in the fall of 1989. I'm holding Brooks Robinson A. and my wife has James Palmer A.
