Any Pats' Fan Wanna Make a 'Ceremonial' Bet Against my Bills??

2 Attachment(s)
You know how mayors and governors make schmaltzy bets based on their teams facing off against each other in an important game - "I'll give you 17 lbs. of avocados if your team wins, or you give me 20 Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches if my guys are victorious"??

Anyone want to put together some kind of relatively insignificant, lighthearted cardboard-based wager for tomorrow night's Bills vs. Patriots game??

Buff for me, Pats for you??

Since I am very light on football cards, I looked through my 1972 Topps high number doubles and could only find two Patriots, Larry Carwell and Mike Montler, to offer. The Carwell is pretty nice and the Montler has edge wear all around it (which makes no grammatical sense, since it is a rectangular card), and I grabbed one of the more important cards from the set, a nice but OC #338 Steve Spurrier IA, but big surprise!! When I took a shot of the backs, I realized he appears to be cut a little short. Crap!! I've only had this card for 25+ years and this is the first time I've noticed it...

Attachment 497734
Attachment 497735

I can certainly add other things to the Patriots pot (maybe baseball cards?), but this is a starting point. Also have either a graded or ungraded high number Namath IA card from the set I could add.

Anyone want to play?? LMK what you're thinking.

JollyElm 01-15-2022 05:17 PM

Man, based on the PM's I'm getting, no one wants to 'surrender' cards in what's going to be a losing effort. God, I hope that's the case!!!!!!!!

Let's go Bills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter_Spaeth 01-15-2022 06:05 PM

Oh for the glory years of those four consecutive Super Bowl losses. Hopefully NE knocks them out of the running for #5, but realistically it's a longshot if it's a clear field, BIlls are the better team right now.

vintagetoppsguy 01-15-2022 07:32 PM

Bills are just dominating this game on both sides of the ball. They are putting on a clinic.

This like, totally sucks.

Please, you Pats fans put yourselves to sleep every night on pillows made of Super Bowl trophies. I go to sleep on a pillowcase filled with dust.

Well it's a very strong team, maybe this will be the year.

Shoeless Moe 01-15-2022 08:19 PM

Ya but......you can see it now......Bills make the Super Bowl and that awful kicker of theirs shanks one to lose it.

It's coming.

Snapolit1 01-21-2022 06:04 AM

Bills - Chiefs is one serious hard call. If someone forced me to bet a grand on that one I really don't know. Mahomes is a major talent (obviously), but I don't like the way he plays when his team starts to flounder. He looks panicked, unlike a Rodgers or other top tier guy who seems cool as hell. All of a sudden Mahones is running like a crazy man and forcing 30 yard passes. On the other hand Bills have played some excellent games lately and are almost due for a bit of a let down. Guess I would go with the Chiefs. Tough game.

Looks like he's had a lot of comeback wins and has a reputation for it. He's even called the comeback king. Not sure where you are coming from here.

If I were betting, I would take the Bills and the points. I think the Bills will win outright.

From your lips to Jim Kelly's ears.

Shoeless Moe 01-21-2022 07:15 PM

I don't know who is gonna win that game, but the Super Bowl better be

Packers vs Bills
or Packers vs Chiefs

or it will be a letdown.

Amended after Saturday's game to say, my comment is a bit incorrect. After the bad 1st round games, round 2 has been tremendous. There really are 8 teams (now 6), any of which can win it this year. It's a funky year, wide open. Would love to see a re-match of the 49ers at the Rams next week, we'll see.

He doesn't look the same to me this year. Just my subjective take, maybe not born out in the numbers.

JollyElm 01-22-2022 02:43 AM

Here's my take on the game...

The Bills need to come out with serious aggression (not aggressiveness, AGGRESSION). First time they have the ball, don't treat it like some sort of deep-thinking chess match, treat it like your only goal today is to embarrass the hell out of K.C.!! The whole league is (rightfully so) scared to death of Patrick Mahomes, so they have the mindset of "If we can get the ground game going, we can take a lot of time off the clock and keep the ball out of Mahomes' hands." Reject that completely. Yes, Singletary has stepped up his game lately, but we've ridden on Josh Allen's back all year, so keep that train rolling. With Diggs, Knox, McKenzie, Davis, Sanders, Beasley, and even Singletary, this is a sick-ass receiving corps, arguably the best in the league. Throw the biscuit and keep throwing it to those playmakers. Turn the tables and put the fear of God into the Chiefs!!! Whenever Sean McDermott tries to get too cutesy with the run game, bad things usually happen, as you end up in a perpetual state of third and long. The Chiefs are going to score. Accept that, but don't worry about it. Buff has a tremendous defense (granted, their numbers are inflated from playing a lot of poor teams this year) so they are anything but pushovers, and they are starving for vengeance after last year's defeat.

Buff needs to take it to the Chiefs, keep taking it to them, and when they think they can't take it to them anymore, take it to them even harder!!!!!!!!!!! Let's go, Buffalllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

This is exactly right. Bills on both sides of the line need to have a mission of embarrassing their counterparts.

Dont Forget

11/7/2021 not so very long ago...... Jacksonville Jaguars 9 Buffalo Bills 6
hahahahaha of course the rest of the season was a disaster..... 2nd consecutive year at #1 pick and the only time in NFL history a rookie coach was fired mid season.

JollyElm 01-23-2022 05:30 PM

It's early, but holy crap, throw the damn ball, Buff!!!!!!!

Shoeless Moe 01-23-2022 07:39 PM

Wow!

vintagetoppsguy 01-23-2022 07:57 PM

No matter what happens in the Championship Games or the Super Bowl, this was the best postseason game by far IMO.

Shoeless Moe 01-23-2022 07:59 PM

Yep.....will be very hard to top.

Probably wont be topped.

That Defensive Coordinator should be fired immediately for the Bills.

What an idiot!

GasHouseGang 01-23-2022 08:01 PM

What an amazing 4th quarter and overtime against the Chiefs. It's a shame either team had to lose. Every game this weekend was down to the wire. Congratulations to the Chiefs.

Agree! An awesome game for both teams.

Peter_Spaeth 01-23-2022 08:03 PM

Why is it that teams just seem to be able to move the ball at will at the end of games? How the hell does KC get into FG range with 13 seconds on the clock?

GasHouseGang 01-23-2022 08:08 PM

Probably because the defenses get so beat by the end of the game. If you've had to chase these speed demons all over the field, suddenly Kelce looks fast. :D

Shoeless Moe 01-23-2022 08:09 PM

With 13 seconds left, even the idiot announcer Romo or maybe it was the other guy said to kick it in play not the end zone to run some time off the clock.

That extra time was the difference.

Thus a Bills kicker blows yet another game.

2 passes for 44 yards in 12 seconds, sorry, that is just wretched defense as good as Mahomes, Hill and Kelce are. Don't disagree on the kickoff but even so.

Shoeless Moe 01-23-2022 08:19 PM

oh yah defense, defensive coordinator, kicker, head coach, all to blame

when the Bills lose, they are like Constanza, THEY LOSE!

poor Josh Allen. he should get out of there.

skooter 01-23-2022 10:42 PM

Not Sour Grapes

Not because of today's game, but I don't see why each team does not get at lease one possession in overtime. After that it should be sudden death. Just my opinion.

GasHouseGang 01-24-2022 12:12 AM

Maybe the NFL will look at the way overtime is decided. I felt like whoever won the coin toss was going to win the game tonight.

Not the kicker's decision. I agree with what you're saying - kick a squibber and make the Chiefs burn at least 6 or 7 seconds on the return. That leaves them with one pass play and then, maybe, a field goal try.

The way the Bills were celebrating I think they were more afraid of a Hill kickoff return, and not too worried about Mahomes with 13 seconds.

edtiques 01-24-2022 03:14 AM

Even after the mistake of not squibbing the kick, the Bills could have held Kelce at the line of scrimmage on the last passing play. They would have given up 5 yards for the penalty but burned precious time off the clock. They can't end the game on a defensive penalty but it would have made Mahomes throw a Hail Mary because they weren't in field goal range at that point and there was only a couple of seconds left.

Anyways, it was exciting to watch and rounded out a great weekend of close, competitive games.

Suppose Buffalo got a possession and scored. Why is it then fair for KC to win the game on ITS next possession? Why not give Buffalo a chance for another equalizer? It could go on all night.

jiw98 01-24-2022 09:57 AM

Maybe just play a full 10 minute OT, no field goals and only go for 2 after a TD. If there is still a tie do it again. The only advantage would be winning the coin toss.

That had to be the BIGGEST choke since Pete Carroll called a pass play on the goal line when he had the number one power running back in the game.

The Bucs el foldo on the last drive was pretty bad too IMO, ruining what was setting up to be another comeback for the ages by Brady.

Nothing can be worse then taking the lead twice with under 2 minutes to go in the game, and blowing it twice.

That's almost impossible.

You will never see that again.

Listening to a New Yorker comment on football is like listening to a bus driver critique a surgeon.

I mean c'mon.

Mahomes has been the Chiefs starting QB for 4 seasons. He's taken them to 4 AFC Championships and 2 Super Bowls, and the 2 times they didn't get to the Super Bowl they went to overtime in the Championship game. I think he's doing just fine.

What do you slap your kid when he gets a "B"?

How many articles should I send you from sports writers all over the country today saying what I said two week ago: he's great but doesn't seem to be quite the same player he was. Would you like 10, 20, or maybe 50? Promise none of them will be from New York.

Did these writers happen to see the end of the Buffalo game?

Well, since this is a Bills thread, I'll hijack it to gloat about the Giants stealing a couple of their top guys to replace their GM and Coach.

Hope they work out. They can't possibly be any worse then the last bunch of guys the Giants have had in those positions.

Tough loss for the Bills but good for Daboll. He definitely deserves a HC try. Go Bills!

Hope Daboll can unlock Daniel Jones (and also keep him healthy). It's obvious they got him because Jones skill set coming out of college, mirrored Josh Allen's so closely, and they think Daboll can perform some sort of magic with him.

I don't think Jones is quite the athlete Allen is, so I don't expect a miracle, but I'd be happy if they could get something resembling Ryan Tannehill production out of him.

Also doesn't matter if they can't get him an offensive line, or any healthy skill position players around him.

Yep. And he closed strong. And last night he played poorly under the gun.

A historic collapse, and he played a very major part of it. His pass decisions later were absolutely terrible.
