Posted By: T206Collector
I will be at Higgins Beach in Scarborough Maine next week. Any local baseball card shops I should hit? These three came up in a search on Google -- any idea whether there is vintage stuff to be had here?

Locker Room Sports Cards - 4.3 miles NE - 100 Main St, South Portland, 04106 - (207) 767-3200

Old Orchard Beach Baseball - 5.0 miles SW - 17 Old Orchard St, Old Orchard Bch, 04064 - (207) 934-1889

Triple Play Sports Card Shop - 7.2 miles N - 907 Main St, Westbrook, 04092 - (207) 854-4740
I spoke with Matt there a few years ago when I ordered from them. He said they were collectors first and being from Maine they presumably know the lay of the land vis-a-vis vintage cards. Matt is the affable sort and was quite happy to chat away with me. You might call him and see what he has to say. Phone number from website is 1-877-620-7667 toll free. BTW I am a 100% happy customer of MJRoop and believe they are deserving of support from members of the Hobby.

David McDonald

Posted By: Rene
The store in Brewer, Maine is closed, as are all the hobby shops in the mid maine area. The Locker Room is a nice place, but he doesn't carry much in the way of vintage cards. Mostly newer wax and singles. Dons has some vintage items, but nothing much to speak of. There is however a new shop in the Auburn Mall you might want to check out. It is run by three different vendors who combined to open a shop. One guy is into racing, one into modern wax and one guy has vintage. Hope that helps.

Posted By: T206Collector
...I didn't have a chance to do any vintage card searching, what with all the fishing, and laying about in the sun to be done. Maybe next year!

Posted By: Texas Ted
There was a guy named Bob Gilbert in Brewer ME that had Brewer Sports and Coins. He is still lising stuff on ebay, so I think he is still there, but he may have closed his store. He sells under bsccmen on ebay. The only stuff I ever bought from him was 52 Topps so I don't think he has a ton of older stuff.

Texas Ted
Posted By: Anonymous
Bob Gilberts' storefront has been closed for close to two years. He rents a small place where he stores inventory, but both he and his son Robbie who owned Collectors Corner in Brewer Maine have closed shop. Its unfortunate as they were really the only game left in town. Bob Gilbert at one point about seven years ago purchased a huge vintage lot consisting of thousands of cards from 1933 all the way to 1962. I purchased quite a few of the higher end cards of Sandy Koufax, Mantle, Maris, Ted Williams, Aaron and some of the vintage hockey. Don't know what he has left, but I know the storefront is no more. I think he does all his ebaying through a gentleman named Andy who is a nice guy. Haven't bought from them online though.
