Heritage may auction

There are a bunch of signed Clemente topps in the upcoming Heritage plus 1952 topps Reese and Wilhelm. All are Beckett slabbed as well as Jackie Robinsons. I'd love some of them but some look iffy to me and was wondering if any of you guys have an opinion on them? Would appreciate it. It is too many links to put in as there are 4 or 5 Clemente and same with Robinson.

Just looked at the Jackie signed cards, and I don't like ANY of them. Beckett really screwed the pooch on those, IMO. I don't see even one that looks good. Perhaps these were PSA/Spence rejects that mysteriously got approved.

FWIW, the Jackie signed Baseball looks good.

Do not love the Clemente signed cards either. I don't think a majority of those would pass PSA or Spence either. Just my opinion and hope it helps.

Thanks Mark. All the cards I need all look suspect and I won't bid on them. Other opinions??

I think the Robinsons are authentic. I don't love the '56 but believe they got it right. They are obviously rushed versions IMO but authentic.

I have reservations about the Robinsons, too.

I think this goes to show how much confidence we are tempted to put in a slab. If these were not slabbed, how many of us would think these are good simply based on their appearance?

Quite frankly, the key to selling any autograph these days is the perceived reliability of the authenticator. I would buy any of the Robinsons based on the autographs but if not authenticated I would want to buy them at a deep discount over what these will sell for. Beckett has a library of exemplars that I doubt any of us have. I'm guessing that both Grad and Studebaker agreed that these were authentic and I think they got them right. Obviously, just my opinion but I have handled quite few Robinson autos over the years and bought many of them with no certificates. These are sloppy but look authentic to me for what it is worth.

I'm far from an expert on Jackie Robinson, but the Beckett ones don't look like mine (some of them don't even look like each other). I've never seen the last three letters in a scribble like that; they've always been very distinct. Even on the 1949 Bowman where he had to smush his signature to fit on the card, he still made an effort to fit them in.

To me 2 of the Jackies look pretty bad but all seem to be signed in the same pen. Would Jackie have signed 4 rushed ones for the same person? Lots of questions
I am also suspect about the Reese and Wilhelm (52 topps) and really unsure on the Clementes. I need these but am hesitant to bid. Any other opinions on the ones other than Jackie?

When in doubt pass. If you don't like the way they look even though they are authenticated. PASS:eek:
