Posted By: <b>identify7</b><p>I agree that trimming the ad off of a Mayo Cut Plug baseball card does make the card look a lot better. And I agree that doing so diminishes long term collector value. Similarly, the Exhibit four on ones are really too big to be as enjoyable to kids as four individual smaller cards, so, I can understand seperating them as well. The same applies to many cards which have been altered by their original owners.<br /><br />However, it seems to me that the cutting apart of the 1941 Doubleplay issue should not be treated differently than the seperation of a strip card, and perhaps this issue should be catagorized as a strip card. My thinking here is that each section of the Doubleplay has its own number assigned to the player, and I conclude that each picture/number combination is designed to stand alone.<br /><br />Certainly, as with (other) strip cards, having them uncut should yield a premium value. But a grading company downgrading a seperated player appears inappropriate to me. Thoughts?<br /><br />

Posted By: <b>Scott Forrest</b><p>"intended use" and "common use",i.e: strip cards were intended to be cut apart, and WERE cut apart.<br /><br />Not only were the double-play cards the same size (unseparated) as normal cards, but they weren't cut apart to the extent that strip cards were.<br /><br />Good subject Gil.

Posted By: <b>john/z28jd</b><p>I think because strip cards have dotted lines to guide the cuts that they were as Scott said,intended to be cut while double plays dont have the dotted lines that would signify "cut here"
