noob ted williams autograph question

i've been dabbling in autograph recently, mainly of the shiny certified variety through the card companies. have always wanted a ted williams tho as he's my favorite player. his stuff is tougher to find pre-certified...been eyeing this one but have NO IDEA whether it's good or not. the seller says it was signed in the 50's....please give your opinion on whether it's good and what's a fair price for a teddy ballgame sig on vintage issues like topps/bowman so i know a ballpark figure to look for. thanks much.

Quan I know absolutely nothing about autos but from the look of the T and the W I would think it is a fake from what I have seen but don't take my word for anything.

Doesn't look right IMO. Compare to the sig below. Look at the lettering particularly in his last name. Save your money Quan, shouldn't be too difficult to find a legit one.

yea, i thought maybe his 50s signature would vary (giving the seller benefit of the doubt). i'll just continue my search for a '92 UD heroes.

thanks much guys.

50s signature would be better to have, but that one looks lousy.:o

interesting card sat there for 10 days mispelled as "ted william" not selling at $350 but price was raised to $750 a couple days back to now ended. glad i could help the seller (and potential buyer) out.

My only question....

Why would someone try to fake a signature on a card worth a couple hundred dollars or more?
I could see Gehrig, Ruth, Cobb because the value of the sig usually is more than that type of value card, but Williams sigs are in a different class and far more common.
Usually they do it on less valuable items in case they screw up. ie Exhibit card, 1959 Fleer, HOF plaque, etc.

Also I wouldnt think a forger would sign it vertical like that with it going through the face, ........ but I think Ted would.

It is probably a non malicious forgery (clubhouse, secy, etc.). It does not appear to be a modern day forgery.
Early Ted stuff is around but be careful. There are non malicious forgeries from his playing days, especially on team balls.
