Baseball Tintypes

1 Attachment(s)
These guys are now available in the B/S/T if interested.

I used to have a decent collection of 19th century baseball tintypes, CDVs and cabinet cards but not so much anymore (mostly collecting Civil War tintypes these days). However, I did run across these 3 guys recently. Sporting identical bib front jerseys, short ties (spotted tie series, lol), athletic belts and boater hats they are typical of circa 1870's base ballers. Thought I'd throw them out there for conversation sake and hoping to see some of the other early baseball tintypes some of you may be willing to share. Thanks for looking.

Those are neat!
It's usually the tiny leap of faith that keeps me from acquiring ones when they don't have any baseball items other than their garb. I have a few tintypess....(shown before but still....)

I agree Leon. I usually look for the equipment as well but these guys had too much for me to doubt. Three guys dressed identical pretty much means sports team and then they have four pieces of clothing that are typical base ball gear.

Nice tintypes btw!

I prefer cdvs but couldn’t resist this tintype. Very nice examples, love all 19th century stuff. Thanks

Encased Tintype Images

I apologize for the size and resolution of the pics, but here are three cased tintypes from our collection. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to take and add better images.

Here are a few more examples...I believe these to be earlier than the encased ones. Again, sorry for the crumby resolution.

I always have more difficulty dating tintypes more than anything else, but I think there are 2 very early one at least, Leon’s with the long coats, and Jon’s with the dark tops. But, that is just a quick thought. Very nice things no matter when they are from.

I wanted to re-post this one as the size and clarity of the one from last night didn't do it justice. While its by no means the earliest or valuable of examples, I'm very fond of it. I picked it up for $11 at an antique show when I was 12 years old...have had it for 30 years now!

So, I was perusing ebay this evening and came across a tintype that depicts the very same subjects seen in Leon's post above. Its the same 4 guys minus the long coats and in different poses, but they've still got the bat and bow.

Don't know if Leon would be interested in reuniting the images, but here's the link to the auction:

Cool piece and talk about a coincidence!

That is pretty amazing. Good work.

The only ones I have. An amusing group, even if the guy is just an actor.
From the looks, the others were pretty much fed up with his baseball antics by the end of the photo session....
