Another Hijacked Account

link removed.

Everyone of these cards has images taken from other sources. Also notice the description of these cards. Completely different then his other listings. Also dollar amounts. If you buy any of these expect an empty envelope or something along those lines.

Ed -

I'm fairly new to this board and I'm a little lost here.
What do you mean by "hijacked"?
This eBayer has a feedback score of 9271, which to me indicates that he is legitimate.

A hijacked account is one that is legitimate, but the password has been compromised along with the PayPal account, and the seller doesn't know it. So the identify thief lists very high priced cards and sort of bargains, sells as Buy-It-Nows, clears out the PayPal account, and closes shop. The legit seller then gets the bad marks.
It's a way for a scammer to use the higher listing limits, since new accounts can't sell more than like $1000 for a month or two before they start accruing positive feedback. These scans he says are stolen, basically screen grabs from when the card was actually listed for sale. If he shows the links where they're currently up for auction/for sale elsewhere, it may back up his statement better. I Report-ed one of them. Maybe eBay will look into it.

Well said John.

I'm not so sure this is a hijacked account. Usually when they grab scans from other sellers listings they are a bunch of different backgrounds in the scans. All of these scans seem to have the same background. Also, the seller had sold a few PSA 10 cards in the last couple months. They weren't real high dollar sales.
The description style is the same for the cards as it is for the auto parts. I think there is a good chance that it is all legit. I could be wrong.

I had the same initial reaction, this did not immediately jump out at me as fraudulent. Not the usual pattern of very inactive for a long time except a few token purchases.

Thank you, John.

I learned something new today.

That's a good catch. The prices seem close enough to market value not to raise any red flags. And with the feedback score and other high end listings I would have had no reason to question this one were I in the market for one of those cards. I am surprised a seller with close to 10k feedback wouldn't notice their account was hijacked though. I would assume there are procedures in place to recover such an account quickly, although I have no direct knowledge or experience in this area.

The seller will not answer any questions.

Answered mine, very coherently.

So maybe he was away. Do you still think he is not legit?

ezez420 12-13-2015 02:34 PM

Maybe he was away. He said he could email me scans. I told him to post a picture of him holding card.

He showed me a picture. Looks like this one is legit. Sometimes surprises.

Most times when something doesn't look right it isn't. That being said sometimes things are what they are. I would still prefer to point out what looks like an issue, even if I make a mistake every now and then. If we never make any mistakes then we aren't trying hard enough.

Amen to that! I got grilled over the coals for pointing out the George Brett rookie fiasco. I would still do it again in a heartbeat.

You missed it...I don't like to rehash things. What's done is done. Let's focus on the hijacked account.
