grading question

In 1991 Hostess released a 1991 Skybox mini card set in their potato chips. The set was made up of many stars including Michael Jordan.
I wonder what the thoughts are about grading these cards. I see a lot on eBay that are graded. But they all seem to have been removed
from their original wrapper which is just a clear see through plastic wrapper. My question is would these be better graded inside the original
wrapper.Or removed them and just have the card graded.I always thought that cards were best left in their original state .But does that
include this wrapper. After all the wrapper was really only placed on the cards to keep it protected from the oils and salt from the chips.
PLMK what you think,thanks you.

I think because the cards were originally packaged to protect them from the oil of the chips, the only way the card could be graded is to remove the card from the original wrap. How else would one be able to determine the overall quality of the card without actually holding the card?

Now I have to dig though my 90's era hoops set which are buried in a closet w some stuff I've not unpacked still from college. hahahaha!

I was more into hoops in this era vs. baseball and ate lots of chips even back then. lol

But I'd leave the Jordan's unopened which is what I did for some of my Star cards. But I also have a few opened Star cards which I graded w/ BGS.

I agree,Just wanted to know what others thought.A lot of people do not like the plastic removed from their Finest rooks so I thought that may be similar. I guess I could always do a bunch of them each way.

Looks like it might be a personal choice sort of thing if you want your card(s) graded with or without it?

I have a bunch of these scattered about. Guess I should collect them up and organize them.

I do see them done both ways. It may be easier to get a 10 with it removed from that wrapper. When someone is grading a card it would be hard to look beyond that crinkled packaging.

More than likely, but at the same time, when talking about other collectibles/memorabilia, usually those items have more value if they are still in their original packaging/boxes.

I guess the same doesn't apply in this instance, however?

Oh I agree.I think if I could get a 10 with the wrapper and a 10 without the wrapper. Then I am taking the one with the wrapper It is cheap to grade these things. But after they are,and in high grade than it is a wind fall for sure.
