1960 Yaz Beckett RP??

I was going through my dad's collection and he has a Beckett 6.5 Yaz RC but on the label it says, "#148 Carl Yastrzemski RP." I always thought RP stood for reprint but is part of my dad's original collection. I looked up the card on Beckett's website and they show only two variations for the 1960 Yaz, the regular Topps and the Venezuelan Topps, link below. Is this really a reprint? If not, why would Beckett assign RP on the label?! I'm really hoping it's not a reprint, I don't know how that would happen with my dad's collection but anything is possible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Occam's Razor would suggest they just typo'd "RC". Is it actually a Venezuelan? If so, a high grade Yaz Venezuelan RC would be very valuable. Post some scans.

Not Venezuelan... but that’s a semi-costly typo if that’s the case!

Send it back for reholdering with a corrected label. Or call them.

Looks real. Even has the TGL instead of TGC on the back, as the real ones do. Was it ever corrected? Send in for a reholder.

Beautiful old low number Beckett slab.

I don't have them anymore but if someone has a Beckett Annual or Almanac circa 2000 check to see if there was a RP after Carl Yastrzemski's name at any point (as well as the other rookies in that subset) in the old guides.

If so, the label just picked up what was in the data base.

I should have thought of that at the start of this discussion.

From Beckett Annual #7 (2002), Regular Issue first, then the Venezuelan issue. The glossary states RP=Relief Pitcher of all things! Jim Kaat and Julio Navarro get the Yaz RC RP treatment in the section I scanned but when I looked up a rookie card of Ray Sadecki (#327) it just said RC. 59's follow the same RP RC pattern so I assume then the RP additive could be a misnomer for Rookie Parade then, or whatever they meant to designate as rookie subsets that follow a specific overall design. Since they removed RC for the Venezuelan issue listing, I strongly suspect that's what happened.

Ok. 2 questions- 1) what are the 2 "cancelation" holes punched in Mike's raw Yaz rookie? I have a bunch of '66 and '67 topps with similar holes. And 2) How does the card grade 6.5 overall with w sub grades of 7, 6, 8, and 7.5? If not an average, what is the heiarchy used to determine the overall grade? That card presents very well in the scan for an 6.5 card ;)

I don’t believe in cards being under graded or over graded. The grade is the grade. Happy for my dad that his looks great.

GBR!

...Sometimes the punch holes on '60's cards indicated how each brother knew whose cards were whose.....and also indicated that at least one of the brothers had a paper route and collected the bill every Friday and punched the customers' card for that particular week to indicate payment.
...As for subgrades affecting final grade , : I've noticed that "corners" is almost always the lowest of the four subs , and the final grade is usually determined by that sub......they usually went point five higher for the final if , and it's a big "If" , all the other three grades were higher than the corners grade......if there were any two grades of the same number , then that was also the final grade 99% of the time; few people submitted to Beckett a second time in the 1990's. PSA and SGC gave easier and higher grades for the identical cards.
