Posted By: <b>Paul S</b><p>I agree with CN. Also, the 1960 Post is one of those oversized jobs, not the usual horizontal cereal cards you might be used to seeing. Those pinholes in the top are probably from somebody pinning it to a wall or corkboard, etc. Re being trimmed -- aren't they ALL trimmed?...they're cut from a box!<br /><br />Edited to add: Vanessa -- these cards CAME with a FACSIMILE autograph! The Mantle card has it's on the lower right. If there's only one autograph on that card, well...I know your proclivity to buy first and ask questions later.

The way you describe yours is nowhere near that, like a Poor, if gradeable at all. If you really want something with his autograph there are several nice autographed items up there to bid on that are real AND clean, and much cheaper.

In this case, it is a good thing we did assume that, because:<br /><br />1. That is not Mantle's signature, it is printed on the card. It is part of the card. All of these cards have the signature printed. You will not have bought Mantle's signature if you buy this card as it appears on ebay.<br /> <br />2. I see no mention at all of a COA by PSA. I see nothing at all to indicate that PSA ever had this card in their possession. You would not want to take his word if he emailed you or told you on the phone that he had one. If he had one it would be on the listing.<br /><br />3. I don't see a minimum bid on the card, and in fact the card is not up for bidding at all. Perhaps you meant you made him a "best offer."?<br /><br />4. The card depicted online is easily worth the $50-75 you offered him, quite a bit more in fact. My question to you is, how does this price go from a BIN of $3,000 to $50-75?<br /><br />Doesn't any of this make you suspicious?

Posted By: <b>Gilbert Maines</b><p>Yes Vanessa, that is what you said.<br />Mantle's autograph on a baseball card is typically worth $200 if PSA verified.<br />More attractive or specialized presentations can draw larger bids.<br />The card which you describe, although attractive, has minimal collector value without the signature.<br />An offer of $200 should be reasonably safe, imo.<br />A greater offer would reflect your personal opinion that the item is more desireable than others.<br />But before you make that decision, search ebay for "Mantle Autograph PSA" and see the offerings and completed auctions.

He said he will pay a thousand bucks a piece for any 60 post cereal mantle that I can find! He is that sure of its rarity and value. So if anyone has these cards out here ge in ouch wih me and we will sell them.

In contrast, the 60 Post Mantle, unless it's a bad cut job, is not that easy, and sells for quite a premium. Check your catalogues.

I would think that if he was savvy, he would sell that piece on ebay, and maybe all the $1000 Mantles he would supposedly buy would end up there, who knows. Just seems odd to me, that's all.

I researched this item extensively since I posted the first thread, and couldnt find a reason to buy that piece for the three hundred dollar price. I trust this card shop owner and have a great deal of respect for him! He is a very well known card dealer who has been doing this longer than I've been alive, but I think he missed the boat on this item. Thanks to all who contributed though. He did get a really nice piece in today: An authintic 1920s signed baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig! He will be pricing this to me tomorrow.
