Photo size in pick up thread

Hey folks
When posting in the new pick up threads please be aware of your scan size. If they are real big then as time goes that thread gets more cumbersome. I will resize them sometimes so please don't take offense. It's not personal.

Also, another board hint, if you aren't seeing 80 posts on your screen, on ONE page when viewing a thread, go to your user control panel and change it from whatever number is there (I think 10 or 20 posts) to 80. Your viewing pleasure will be enhanced. I chuckle when I see longtime members say they are on page 3 of a 40 post thread......that should be page 1. (if you don't want to turn so many pages)

Photo size

What is the preferred hot size when posting? I usually reduce my photos to a smaller size, but I suspect I don't reduce them enough. Thanks.

If you use the board "manage attachments" and upload them there then it does it for you. The largest size there is about 75k-80k as a finished product. If you look at the most current Oct thread, the very first post/scan (Goudey Ott) is one I resized. If they are approximately that size then it helps everyone.

One other hint, even though someone said there might be a default in our s/w to add the "sent to" PM message box, as a default, there isn't. It takes about 5 seconds to go add one from your user control panel. I recommend everyone doing it. Then when you want to see what you sent you can. If you don't set it up you won't have a sent box......just a hint to make the experience on the board a little better. And yes, there are a ton of things we could upgrade but these few things are ones everyone can do on their end and very easily.

Hi Leon,

Is there any way to edit the size of pictures when they are posted from links? I don't have scanner access and usually will pull from the eBay auction or from my photo bucket account. Unfortunately, those tend to be very large images.

Thanks,

Chris

Since we're talking about forum settings...

Leon, have you ever thought about adding a feedback feature for B/S/T transactions?

The only other thing I'd like to see personally is that people would leave the prices in sold threads. Most seem to delete the price and replace it with "SOLD". I'm not asking to put the exact price that the item sold for (I'm sure there is some negotiation going on via PM and email. It would be nice to have at least the asking price for reference later on when determining value of similar items.

All you need to do is save the scan to your "my documents"....then you can right click on it, open with paint and resize them very easily. Once you are accustomed to doing it, it takes literally 20-30 seconds.

As for adding a feedback system for the BST, I have thought about it. It would require significant work (contrary to what a few people think) and it's not something I see a huge need for at the moment. Yes, it would be nice, but the implementation is not just 1,2,3.......and so far, in many years, I haven't heard of more than a deal or two (actually never heard of any but there had to be 1-2) not being done because of feedback or a lack of reputation.

Gotcha. I've seen other forums similar to this one with the feedback system. I didn't realize that it would require much effort to put it in place.

For the most part, this forum seems like a smaller and more tight knit group than others though. In that regard, I don't think the feedback system is as necessary.

I am on several other forums and have seen the feedback systems too. When I investigated (very recently) it looked like another server and software to do it plus a lot of implementation trials and errors. I think I was on SCF or Blowout........

O.K., Leon, I am a computer idiot

although I sit behind one all day, every day.

Where under Your Control Panel is the option to change number of pages in a thread at? I don't see anything to change/control that under the headings given.

Thanks.

it is under the 3rd section down from the top, settings and options....then edit options.....then it's about the 3rd or 4th box down and you will see thread display options......you will see it as the 3rd box down, number of posts to display in thread, just change that number to 80 (the largest we allow)...or LMK
