Trivia:

As a 24-year-old rookie, he was 21-6 with a 2.13 ERA and threw 2 complete game victories in that year's World Series.

Who he?

I won't spoil the answer, but one of the greatest what ifs, that I don't think is talked about enough. Hell of a one season, wonder!

I do not recall the pitcher or the team but I seem to recall year a rookie that had a great WS against the Yankees in one of the Series in the early 40's but I not 100% sure

It was St. Louis.

Ok that may help someone else but sadly not me.
Great question

So if it was St Louis that would make the series Yankees vs St. Louis in 1942 I believe. Only ST Louis pitcher I can recall is Max Lanier and I think he might have won one of the games. But he was not a rookie.

Hopefully someone else has better knowledge them me

What do you mean by one of the greatest what if's?

So without spoiling who the player is, he was pretty dominant throughout the course of the one season. He gets sent off to War, and while playing baseball in the services, severely injured his arm. He was never the same when he came back and retired a few years later.

BaseballReference.Com has an interesting portion of each player's page in which, through some involved process, the players most similar to that player are listed.

The object of this trivia question is listed as the most similar pitcher- at this point anyway- to Shohei Ohtani.

Otherwise, I never would have heard of Johnny Beazley.

I never would have guessed him especially since I never heard of him but I am now curious and will check out his story
