Any One Collect Pins?
This is something I just started collecting. I have picked up a few here and there, like a 2009 Yankee Stadium Opening Day Pin among others. I really like picking up pins and can see myself having a large collection within time.
I was wondering if there were other pin collectors here and how do do you store/display your pins? Where can i pick up supplies to keep my pins in good condition? Also, I would love to see some pin collections, so post up some pics. Mike |
See this thread and search out his book. It is INCREDIBLE and has tons of photos. See -- Message to Dr Muchinsky -- and look for his book

Mike,
Welcome to the pin collecting hobby! Some people refer to us as " pinheads" but I have been called worse. I love pinback buttons, have written two books on them, baseball and boxing, and would be happy to discuss pins with you at any time. Sincerely, Paul |

Welcome to the forum.
There are definitely some pin collectors on our board. I dabble in everything and here are a few... http://luckeycards.com/ppdx4kolbsandsherlocks.jpg http://luckeycards.com/pp2x2.jpg http://luckeycards.com/ppe2diamondgumx3.jpg http://luckeycards.com/ppm1matty3.jpg |

Nice pins Rob. Do you think the 1920 pin came with a ribbon or some type of charm?

jackie pin and board

Kevin,
I have been chasing the Brooklyn Eagle pin of Jackie forever. I have never seen the pin board with Jackie's picture. I am posting some of my Jackie/Brooklyn pins. I find the best way to store pins is in the box frames. Jay |
I love pins and badges, in particular vintage enamel badges.
Funnily enough, not so much baseball...... I kind of like putting together groups in themes, so over the last 8-10 years I did vintage motorcylces, then vintage Aussie rules football clubs, vintage international soccer clubs, and a mixed sports group. Here's a shot of my motorcycles lot. Wow, I am loving some all of these vintage pins I see. Right now, I am collecting the modern metal pins, but I do hope to pick up some vintage Yankee pins soon as I can afford some, lol.
I have a few right now, here are the 3 I recently picked up. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y89...ps37f0f9ef.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y89...ps39abe793.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y89...ps0768b8d7.jpg I also have the complete 2006 New York Post NY Yankees pin set that you had to buy every day or week, not sure which as I don't remember. I also have a few pins, including the pin for the opening of the new Yankee Stadium. I just have to find them. I see that most everyone has theirs in frames. Where do you get them? I was thinking of albums, similar to the ones the Disney pin collectors use, but I don't know where to find them. Would anyone know the best place to pick supplies? Would I need anything else? Paul, I will definitely take you up on that offer. I want to learn about pins and how to care for the ones I pick up and would love the chance to discuss pins with you. I will also keep an eye out for your books as well. If they are in Kindle format, even better. What are the names of your books? Thanks for posting your pics. Keep them coming :) Mike |
Those are incredible, Rob. Nice way to wake up -- new Tribe exemplars to chase.
Any mfg. or backpaper still attached on any of 'em? Congrats! |

The 1920 pin has a paper insert that reads: Newman Manf'g Co. Cleveland Ohio Here are a few more recent additions. The Fellers are color variations I didn't have. The two pinbacks at the bottom are nothing to write home about, but the point-of-sale, cardboard backing with each is pretty cool. |

1950s Team Pins
Hiya Mike
First - nice pins - and I've seen some really cool and incredible pins in the past few pages. I don't collect pins - tho I like them - just don't want to sway too far from my current "focus." A favorite of mine - is a complete "team" set of pins - that most likely were sold at ball parks in the 50s. What makes this one more cool? The original cardboard backing. Based on the Braves and Nationals pin? I would date this set from 1953 to 1955. Pins are 3/4" and in really nice shape. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...g?t=1364530506 |
Recent no-hit pitcher pinback pickups
1 Attachment(s)
Here are 3 recent pinbacks that I have picked up. I collect pinbacks of vintage no-hit pitchers.
BTW, I'm always looking for ones that I don't have. I would love to find one of Allie Reynolds, Virgil Trucks and Johnny Vander Meer. If you have these or any others to sell, PLMK. Thanks! Many thanks to net54 member Rob Dewolf for offering me the Bob Lemon (hands over head) and the Cy Young that you see here. Cy Young threw 3 no-hitters at the turn of the century (including one perfect game), Bob Lemon threw one against the Tigers in 1948 in Det. The other pinback is a rather scarce one that depicts no-hit pitcher Earl Hamilton. Earl Hamilton pitched a no-hitter against the Ty Cobb led Tigers in 1912. After his ML career ended, Hamilton went on to own a minor league baseball team. |
Great stuff guys. Love these vintage pins I am seeing on here. Keep them coming!

Rob,
Great Giants pin collection, and I know that you are just showing the tip of the iceberg here. BTW, I collect pinbacks of guys that pitched no-hitters. I suspect that currently I have between 50-60 different ones. One pinback that I'm looking for is of Gaylord Perry in a SF Giants uniform. Do you have any duplicates or know someone that might? Here is a small sampling of pinbacks from my own collection. |
^^^^^^
I love that idea! I don't have any duplicates, but will keep an eye out. The orange border Perry might be a little easier than the PM-10, but both are tough. BTW, the Perry PM-10 is a bit of a mystery because it looks so "bootleg" but has the SF on his hat while other, more professional looking, Giants PM-10s sometimes do not. That is the only Perry PM-10 I know of. I really mourn the passing of pinbacks in recent times. They are all but extinct. P.S. I don't know of any Halicki or Montefusco pins. :( |
Quote:
How big is the Orange boardered button of Gaylord? Good to know about Halicki and Montefusco. I wondered if a pinback of these guys existed or not... Thanks! |
Rob,
Love the Giants pins. Im a big collector of the pm10s . I do have a few other giants that I dont see on your boards. Great collection. Here are a few that I have. Will post more as time permits. Al |

I got the Perry PM-10 years ago from a sixty year old collector who decided having a house would be better than having a good Giants collection :D |
I have only a handful of baseball pins, plus a bunch of boxing. I pick them up for the players I collect or for things I recall.
This Mays pin is something I remember from when I was a little kid in NYC. There was a poster with the same artwork that hung on my closet all that year. http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...0Hey%20Pin.JPG I collect Al Rosen stuff so this one was a natural pick up for me: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...10%20Rosen.jpg Just liked the look of this one: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ange%20pin.jpg Here's an interesting item, a backing for a pin that I purchased because the graphics just screamed 1970s at me: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ebsize/001.jpg |

Thanks for pumping some life into this thread! As I result, Al reached out to me and offered up this duplicate Gaylord Perry PM-10 pinback this evening so I filled a hole in my collection. |

Rob, Nice to see you on the net site. Beautiful collection my friend. Well as you know the McCormick just cost me a fortune! Only one I ever saw. I have owned the Pagan for a long time another one never seen. I do have 2 hallers. But It would take alot to get one away from me! Now if you can get Andy B. Andypcl to part with a few of his black background Giants we might have something there! Hello Andy! |

O/T Anyone know if pinbacks exist for these guys?
I'm just curious if any of the pin experts and collectors know if pinbacks even exist for these players:
Virgil Trucks (Detroit Tigers) Jim Wilson (Milwaukee Braves) Johnny Klippstein (Cincinnati Reds) Don Larsen (NY Yankees) Hoyt Wilhelm (Baltimore Orioles) Earl Wilson (Boston Red Sox) Bo Belinsky (Los Angeles Angels) Jack Kralick (Minnesota Twins) Dean Chance (Minnesota Twins) Sonny Siebert (Cleveland Indians) George Culver (Cincinnati Reds) Don Wilson (Houston Astros) Jim Maloney (Cincinnati Reds) Ray Washburn (St. Louis Cardinals) Don Nottebart (Houston Colt 45's) Ken Johnson (Houston Colt 45's) Dave Morehead (Boston Red Sox) Catfish Hunter (Oakland A's) Burt Hooten (Chicago Cubs) Milt Pappas (Chicago Cubs) Ken Holtzman (Chicago Cubs) Steve Busby (KC Royals) Jim Colborn (KC Royals) Bob Forsch (St. Louis Cardinals) Dick Bosman (Texas Rangers) Bert Blyleven (Texas Rangers Doc Ellis (Pittsburgh Pirates) Vida Blue (Oakland A's) John "Blue Moon" Odom (Oakland A's) Larry Dierker (Houston Astros) Ken Forsch (Houston Astros) Dennis Eckersley (Cleveland Indians) Thanks for any help you can provide! |
Scott, I know Hoyt Wilhelm does have a PM10 stadium pin. I will look into a few on the list for you. Al
Scott there are 2 other players with pins that I can see Catfish Hunter was on the 1983 remake of the 1969 MLBPA pins and Dean Chance was on the origional 1969 MLBPA pins probably wouldnt be very expensive. But that wilhelm would be another matter....... |
Thanks Al!
|
Scott- are you talking PM-10s or ANY pins for those guys? ^^^^
|
Great topic, and collections. I love all smalls; pins, pencil toppers, and patches. Not just baseball, any sport. For example, I like the look of those old, shovel-nose hydroplanes. Here's a portion of my Seattle Seafair pin collection 1954-1967 with a button from the short-lived (1957-60) Lake Chelan Apple Cup:

Any round pin info, PM-10 or otherwise, would be helpful. I'm just trying to gain a sense of what's out there in the hobby that would match the requirements of my no-hit pitcher pinback collection.... |
Wow...
Hi Al, Rob, etc.
Great to see some truly amazing pics. It looks like Rob has the black backgrounds pretty well covered! I can't add a whole lot to the Giants button theme but thought I'd drop this odd-ball on the thread. Dr. M has the Red Sox version of this square pin and it's a really neat one in a weird baby blue color. Scott, I have an early 70's Vida Blue at home that I'll locate later and post. In the meantime, here's a site with a bunch of my buttons pictured. Please forgive the amateur nature of the layout. I'm no techie!! http://andysvintagepinbacks.homestead.com/ |
Wow Andy!! Love the knot hole gang section. Those Wenatchee Chiefs pieces are just awesome! Seen the Wheaties before, but not the other two. Great collection!!
|
Thanks Andy! I look forward to seeing the Vida Blue.

Thanks for the nice feedback!
Scott, here's Vida. As a Bay Area sports fan born in 1967, this button has always been one of my favorites. |
