Autographed baseball cards Continued!
7 Attachment(s)
Here is another group of autographed cards The opinions on the last batch were pretty right on so I would love to get opinions on these.
Good/Bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the update on the cards I sent to JSA. All the cards I sent in passed so I'm going to be sending another group later on in the week. |
Derringer doesn't look right
|
I may be wrong, but I think Harmon Killibrew might roll over in his grave if he saw those.
|
All good except for Derringer in my opinion.
|
You could show the Derringer in the Facebook group 1938-40 Cincinnati Reds. Derringer's son is on that thread. According to him, most TTM Derringer autos were signed by family members. He said Paul hated signing and would let items back up.

The Ford and Berra look good to me. I'm not a fan of the Musial, but it may just be a style I'm not familiar with.
|
Ryan is certainly correct.
This version of his sig was signed in the 1970's at the ballpark. |
I agree that the Derringer looks off, and the Berra and Ford look good. I also think, as best I can tell by the photo, that the Gomez and Ruffing are both good.
|
 - to the Killebrews...
|
Gibson, Brock, Yogi, Whitey look good

Is the Whitey signed twice or did someone else write his name in pen first?
|
Whitey
Signed twice. Looks like the first signature ran out of ink so he resigned

I don't see anything wrong with that 73 Killebrew.
|
I'm quite surprised at the unfamiliarity I'm seeing from some folks regarding Killebrew's rushed, 1970's in-person style. These are encountered with regularity and are entirely legitimate.
|
Billy, i would love to have you show me a Killebrew that passed by any of the big 3 that looks like the ones above.:p
Just a side note. a perfect Killebrew with a mint signature and mint card sells for around $20 to $50 |

Here are a couple of certified Killebrews with similar styles. In addition, I have seen many, manny Killebrew's that look like these that originated from legitimate collections that came up for sale.

I'm sure anyone who has the interest can do the legwork themselves to find authenticated examples in this rushed style. As noted, this is a very common signature variation from late in Killebrew's career.
On another note, I've had some great exchanges with Derringer's son and asked him straight out about who was signing most of the mail for their Dad, as it clearly wasn't Derringer himself. Most of the time, it looked like the work of children. Well, that's exactly what it turned out to be! The children would sit around the table with their Dad and answer his mail for him! Also, anyone who has interest in buying Derringer's autograph, do not buy it for the slab it's in! This is especially true of that Fleer cards he appeared on. I've sadly seen at least two of the major TPAs "authenticate" the examples of these cards signed by Derringer's kids. I have no idea how that happened, as the autograph bears no resemblance to that of Derringer. I did not retain scans of these, however. Just use caution, as they've popped up on eBay from time to time. If the signature appears slowly drawn (by a child, no less), stay away. It should be easy for anyone to spot. One of the kids would use exaggeratedly tall P's and D's. |
I was wrong. it wont be the first or last :D:D I will stick with what I know.
