Any investors here?

Was curious to see if anyone here was in finance for a living. Are you guys able to enjoy the baseball hobby, or do you treat it as an investment as well?

Just to start it off - I work in asset management in NYC - more so portfolio management. Been in it since I graduated HS. I am an absolute nerd when it comes to numbers!

I have more baseball cards relative to my net worth than I should. Does that count? I don't invest except some funds with my IRA's......I got out of the stock market after the dot bomb......

investments

I also work in finance but for luckily, I was collecting baseball cards for ten years before I got into finance so I am able to separate the two thoughts. I have, however, found it to be a struggle to not think of 'future gains' before I buy a card, but when I find the card I 'need', I am able to purchase it even if I believe I am buying the card at the 'high end' of the pricing spectrum. I basically separated my collection into the 'investment' portion' and my 'personal collection' portion- problem is, 99% of my higher valued cards have found their way into the 'personal collection' portion so my 'unrealized gains' if you will, will probably continue to accumulate :D

Leon - That does count! The stock market has been a mess since 2000; you're a lucky man.

Frank - Thanks for sharing! Glad to see there is another finance guy here. I agree with you that sometimes it's tough separating the investing with collecting. This is especially true to finance people that deal with numbers all the time. I really wanted this hobby to be an oasis of finance/money talk, but it's hard. BTW - What is the policy/rules on mark-to-market prices on cards?! :)
