Rollie, this is a "New Acquisitions" thread. It's a very nice NM 7 Rookie of one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. Perhaps compliment them on the pick up, and then ask for an opinion on the card in your collection next time, or in a different thread.

I took it as opportunity to communicate appreciation for a particular card. By implying I knew my card was worth less with a smiley face, means I wasn't trying to upstage him.

I don't just type "cool card dude"

I also have a small collection of season passes, this one to the official William T. Halloran - he was the field judge in the 1936 NFL Championship and continued as an official into the 1950s. I like that it was signed by Carl Storck.

I attended another local card show today. One of the dealers (Eddie) who sets up at our regular show opened up a brick and mortar store and of course I want to visit and support. But it's way on the south side of Jacksonville and almost an hour drive for me. But today he had an in store card show, and needing some supplies anyway, it was time. All the guys set up I've seen before so nothing there, but I find Eddie, and compliment him on his great card store. The space is huge, giant screen TVs everywhere. I never buy anything from Eddie he just never has anything I need.

Anyway he says the magic words I haven't heard in years "I've got a couple monster boxes in the back I haven't gone through yet". Of course most is junk wax era stuff but I find over 100 cards to restock my doubles box mostly 1970 1971 Fleer World Series baseball cards. And somehow, stuck in the middle of all those cards was one of the three 1972 Topps football high numbered cards I need for my set #308 Earl Morrall:)

So today I picked up over 100 cards for my dupes box (some 63 Post and Jello baseball cards too), twelve 800 count storage boxes, twelve packs of 100 count soft sleeves, and a needed 1972 Topps hi number Earl Morrall for $48 plus I had to pay tax LOL!

Always fun to thumb through cardboard!

Nice examples of this card eBay BIN $40-$45 so I would place the "full book" price for this card at $2. The dealer probably did not even know what card he was placing in the .25c bin, all he saw was a torn up 1954 scoops card. Plus sometimes I do get "lucky" LOL!

Thanks for posting this Rev, the other player was Bob Kalsu and its appears neither had a regular football card. It was worth taking the time to google search these guys with Memorial Day closely approaching.

I'm guessing Integrated is a loose term. Not by you but the actual views of a few of those guys or maybe just one of them in the pick.

One of my OBC trading buddies sent me this card today. I need just one more (#4 Babe Parilli RC) to complete my 1951 Topps Magic set!

#70 Ed Dobrowolski is listed in the Standard Catalog as a "common" but I have been unable to find a card priced as such LOL. I guess all the Syracuse collectors keep the price bumped up? It appears that Ed played three years of college ball but didn't play with the pros.

In todays mailbox, two 1952 Bowman Large hits via eBay purchase. I am still plugging away at my set, holding 128 of the 144 cards in the set or 88% complete.
#117 Short Print Pat O'donahue according to the Standard Catalog NM $225 shipping fees pushed the price over my 10% threshold and cost me $25 total. Pat was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin don't we have a board participant who collects everything Eau Claire?
#127 Short Print Ollie Matson Rookie Card NM $400 shipped free and at the 10% goal, cost me $40. I think I wrote about Ollie before? Summer of 1952 he won two medals in the Olypmics, then won co-ROY NFL 1952. NFL HOF 1972. Later in life Ollie suffered from dementia due to CTE.

Nice Larry. Great Matson. I've always ranked that card high on the "most aesthetic" list of football cards and you got a nice example.

Nice pickups Larry. I think that most people would rate the 1952 Bowman Large as the most attractive set of Football cards ever made.;)

Picked up a couple of Philadelphia Unitas cards ('64 & '65) and a 1955 Topps Benny Friedman. If you get the chance, read the book Passing Game by Murray Greenberg. It seems a shame but it appears that Friedman's abrasive personality kept him out of the HoF until well after his retirement and death. He was so good during his prime that Tim Mara purchased the Detroit Wolverines franchise just so he could obtain the rights to Friedman and put him on the Giants roster.

Great Friedman, Scott! He was the first great passer in the NFL. His 20 TD passes in 1929 are amazing given the era and shape of the ball back then. His season TD record wouldn't be broken until 1942. For perspective, Billy Kilmer and Joe Namath led the league in TD passes in 1972 with 19.

Thanks. How's the 58 set coming along?

Finished the '58 set last month with 3 unremarkable cards, a very reasonable vintage set. The Brown rookie is a beater and needs an upgrade. Concentrating on finishing '62 Post (159/200), and continuing those darn '77 Mexicans (137/528). At my current rate, the '77 set may take 5 more years (minimum), and I'll probably cave on condition just to acquire some cards. Next to those 72 high numbers, it is one of the more challenging sets I have run across. Not impossible with unlimited funds, but not my situation. Best of luck and happy collecting, great to see the progress on your '72's :)

One of the few sets I've collected completely in the raw. The keyhole cards are not my favorite, but easy on the wallet. My set is G-VG/EX; with the exception of Unitas and Brown which are worse. I scanned these only for a template. Yes the bottoms are missing but I was looking for scuff/off coloring as is common in this issue, comparative decently centered cards, etc :

Nice '58 set Ty. Yeah, I agree that the '58's are prone to surface wear and poor picture clarity (1957 also). Good luck w/ the '77 Mexican set.

Todays mail included this eBay win 1950 Bowman #100 Sammy Baugh. This leaves me two cards short of the full set (still need #5 Y.A. Title RC and #6 Lou Groza RC).
Boy this is a nice example (for me), and still under 10% NM book even after shipping!
Sammy was a charter member of the NFL HOF class of 1963. After football (according to his son), Baugh derived far more pleasure from ranching than he ever had from football, saying that he enjoyed the game, but if he could live his life over again, he probably wouldn't play sports at all. Sammy lived a long life, and died in 2008 at the age of 94.

I love the detail in the Baugh, right down to the gold stitching on his helmet.

To me, all of the Bowman Waterfield's look amazing. In the '51, I think the combination of the leather helmet, the cleats showing on the bottom and the sky coloring really make it a great looking card.
