MY CJ display

Its heavy and huge. Maybe should have gone with red matte? I still needs the Cobb, Wags and Rickey at some point.

That is beautiful!! I love the way all of the card rows are perfectly balanced out. Great work!!

Steve,

Killer CJ setup! Are those in the slab still, or did you save the black SGC inserts after freeing all of them? Nice that that pair of E107s on the wall have some company!

Best,

Andy

Sweet display, Steve. Very well done. Museum quality.

Looks awesome! I think the matte is just right as it shows off the red of the cards.

Nice

Nice display. What kind of glue did you use to glue the cards to the mat?

3-2-count 12-01-2012 07:29 AM

Very nice Steve. The matte you picked was perfect. It allows the cards to pop!! A red back drop would have drowned them out.

Awesome display Steve. Nice job.

I love it! I wish my place was a little bigger so I could put up a display like that.

15 are graded SGC and the other 12 are in old sgc slabs that were broken.

They fit into square cutouts in the back and can be swapped by removing the back glass and matte...I like to put my cards on the floor!

Thanks for all the kind words guys, now back to work!

That looks absolutely phenomenal! I like how the cards can still remain in the SGC holders, but the display only shows the black inserts.

The only thing I might suggest is adding a small "Cracker Jack" or "Cracker Jack Ball Players" across the top or bottom of the display, printed in the exact font that's used on the cards. This may prove to be more costly than it is worth, and it's only a suggestion -- the piece looks great just the way it is. :)

This is what I was envisioning, fwiw....

Nice display of cards but the wall looks a little crowded.

atx840 12-01-2012 01:14 PM

Very cool.

Nice Steve!

Have you scrapped the custom album idea? I remember you talking about it and I thought it was a great idea.

Bestdj777 12-01-2012 05:04 PM

Great display! I love how you were able to keep the cards in the holders. Did you have this professionally done or do it yourself? It looks amazing.

Also, curious about what type of glass you used and whether it protects them from the sunlight (or whether you keep them out of the light)? My fiance has wanted to frame my cards for me for some time, but couldn't think of a nice way to do it and was always afraid of them fading in the sun. This is such a cool piece.

Thanks for all the thanks...its weird to actually have it now. I need to take out all the cases and clean them as those fingerprints are definitely visible.

Chuck - I have the exact same think several times...I think it would Cracker Jack on the top and ball players on the bottom and definitely in the CJ font. It would match the album as well.

Matthew - I am going ahead with my album as well. It will be brown in color with CJ Ball players stamper black on the front in a 3-ring binder of course. I had a 1915 album in my sights, but funds can make decisions for us and I'm still paying for cards. I will have the book open on a floating shelf...kinda like an alter?

Bastdj - That was professionally done BUT I used multiple coupons and my powers of persuasion with the GM. The glass is the best I could get (Cant remember what its called but it protects, reflects, buffs shampoos and polishes). The GM of the store collects cards, nothing like CJs, and I let him sit in office and play with my cards for about 20 minutes while I pitched the "advertisement" ploy. Everyone I ever show it to will ask who did it, and for that I deserve some free perks and got him to throw in a back matte, a piece of glass and a couple other minor things. Its freaking huge measuring 38" by 27" outside borders.

Also, it can never be crowded on the wall! Next thing will probably be a t200 set some time down the road...still need 11!
