1953 Bowman Spahn ex-mint on eBay

I need to upgrade my Spahn and I saw this one for 119.00. It looks nice but I am wondering about the brightness of the reverse. Could this have been washed? The seller is baw58 and this question isn't meant to have any reflection on him.

Spahn

You didn't post a link, but I think you are talking about this card:

I see what you mean. Some of my 53 Bowmans have a white card stock on the front. However, the backs still seem to have the tan-ish hue. This one not only looks really white but inconsistent like on this card.

I would pass and find a different example.

Some non-nefarious people use photoshop to quickly brighten up their images. There are tools that instantly turn off-white areas into snow white areas. Not a fan of it, but it is a reality. If you are worried about it being a legitimate card, ask the seller to take and send you a couple of quick, unretouched cell phone pics in 'normal' lighting of the front and back. If the same issues are prevalent, then you'll have a decision to make.

When I originally viewed the card, the photos that were posted on eBay didn't illustrate the bottom corners well. I asked him if he could send me close ups and instead he posted them on the listing for all to see. In the brief communication I had with the seller he was amiable. I might ask him to send me another shot of the reverse and ask how it ended up so light.

I scan a lot and often get very bright light areas. I think the Spahn is fine.
