Reached the halfway point in my mini-project. Collecting all 14 known Pirates with EPDG backs. Got these two just now in the mail from two different people. I know the Camnitz was only recently confirmed, so I figured I better buy that one despite the writing.

Mainly bought this because it relates to local baseball history. (Cad Coles played for the Kansas City Packers in 1914.)

Awesome, John - very tough card!

That "over head" Camnitz wasn't confirmed when I stopped working on the Pirates back in 2012, as far as I know. At that time, I believed there were 15 confirmed, with only Willis, Abstein, and that Camnitz being no-shows. I did not have an image of a couple, and Clarke (fielding) was a bit of a mystery, but I thought it had been confirmed by someone (I do not have the records).

This one would bump it to at least 15 known, 16 if Clarke (fldg) is actually confirmed.

Either way, there are some tough ones in the list, but you've knocked off a big one - congrats!

Picked Up this full Pirates Pack with a Card at a Local Show. The Card is not Baseball related.

I am going by T206Resource. Their checklist has 14 confirmed and it was 13 when I first put the list together, then someone found the Camnitz, so I added it. I actually decided to try for them all a year or so before I started, so that's why I only have seven now.

I got a couple nice ones in a trade(see pic below) and then decided to go for the rest. I do check their list from time to time for updates just in case. Message me if you find the checklist that says more than 14 are available so we don't clutter the May pickup thread. Thanks.

BTW, I have Gibson, Miller, Clarke/port, Maddox, Wilson, Camnitz arms folded and above head. Phillippe seems very easy, so I've passed on a few nicer ones, looking for VG range

Nice pick ups!

I always enjoy seeing people's pickups each month, especially when they are related to a "Special Project " that someone is working on. These show us all the fun in collecting and how you can collect in anyway that means something to YOU;not the industry itself or that there is a standard way to have a collection. Thanks for sharing guys!

Acquired late last month:

1) The first is a c1916 RPPC of HOFer Judy Johnson, when he was ~16 years young. Don't know if I'd call it his "rookie" or his "prookie" or what? I'm just calling it "one of my new favorites!"

2) I suppose the 2nd one speaks for itself. :)

May be my monitor, but that almost looks like a Blue Old Mill back.

LKeeler 05-06-2015 01:02 PM

Thanks guys. Gary, must be your monitor as it is black. I was hoping that the longer that I stared at it that it would be brown or blue but alas it remains black.

Technically an April pick up but it just arrived today. My first Lionel Carter card. I must say he did have a great eye for cards with nice eye appeal.

After many years and constant upgrades this one finally completes my 1922 Zeenut set at 162 cards, not sure why this card is so tough (possibly because Wildfire Schulte was also in the set with Seattle which is also a tough card) but it sure was a tough one for me to come by. I still collect the 1922 sepia variations (I have almost 60 of those in addition to the 162 cards in the set)...

http://starsofthediamond.com/may2015pickup1.jpg

I also was able to pick up 3 more of the 1923 sepia players. For those not familiar with the set... It is likley that the 1923 Zeenuts were not going to be ready for production in time so they made 24 cards where they simply redated the 1922 cards and distributed them with new dates on front. The later "regular" 1923 cards are all black and white with no sepia highlights and all the poses of the players were changed to their new 1923 poses. This is a notoriously very tough set to complete among Zeenut guys, with these 3 it brings me up to 16 of 24...

Cool Rhett! Way cool.

trdcrdkid 05-06-2015 06:23 PM

Rhett --

One of my first vintage cards was a 1923 Zeenut of Chadbourne, bought through the mail in 1979. It's just a regular black and white, not one of those sepia ones.

rhettyeakley 05-06-2015 06:53 PM

Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm pretty happy to cross an entire set off the wantlist (nothing more satisfying than that!)

About those strange 1923's here are some examples just to show some examples of what the differences are...

That's weird... I can see in your quoted message you are linking a card in your gallery, but I'm not seeing it in this thread. Can you post it right in this thread, Dean? Not sure how Leon saw it....

Hope all is well!

Lol, sorry Pete! I was very lucky a friend parted with it for my set, which is the only Murray I've ever seen. I'm down to only needing a purple Wagner to complete my purple set. I've only seen one Wags, so that'll be a challenge for sure.
