Which T205 Cobb Do You Like Better?

2 Attachment(s)
Easy question. Which of these do you like best?

parkerj33 10-20-2021 10:36 AM

t205 cobb

if i vote 4.5, can i buy it?

LOL....after what I had to pay for it you wouldn't want it. Both of these will reside in my collection....probably permanently or until I sell my collection again (I have no reason to at this time. )

mrreality68 10-20-2021 10:39 AM

I would take either card.

Not an easy question.

Both cards look really good I am not sure I can pick one over the other.

If I had to choose I would probably pick the 4.5

nat 10-20-2021 10:51 AM

I like the 4.5. Wear on the bottom corners is less pronounced and the text on the back is sharper. But they're both beautiful cards.

HOF Auto Rookies 10-20-2021 10:55 AM

I like the look of the front better on the psa

brianp-beme 10-20-2021 10:57 AM

The 4.5, because it has a little more of an "I'm an old card that still looks nice" vibe vs. "I'm an old card that is trying too hard to look like a shiny new card", which, whether or not it has been tampered with (not saying that it has been and probably hasn't), still always leaves a negative impression in my lower condition brain.

If you're a flip freak, then PSA. If you only care about the higher numerical grade then SGC. Perhaps the question should be about subjectivity and which card is felt to be most accurately graded.

If there was a huge difference in price, I'd take the PSA4.5 card.

BobbyStrawberry 10-20-2021 11:01 AM

4.5 easy choice for me. Both great cards

jsfriedm 10-20-2021 12:09 PM

Are the borders of the PSA 4.5 that much shinier than the SGC 6 or is it just the pictures?

Here is a better scan for that purpose. The SGC one is further down the holder but they are the same height. Pretty close on the borders.

hcv123 10-20-2021 12:22 PM

easy pick

for me. The visible touches on the bottom corners of the 6 puts the 4.5 ahead all day, every day.

jsfriedm 10-20-2021 12:23 PM

It might still be the scans, but the coloring on the 4.5 seems more intense and I'd prefer it for that reason. (Either would still be a bit of an upgrade over my SGC 4.)

DeanH3 10-20-2021 12:32 PM

Both cards are beautiful and would be stoked to own either one. We are definitely nitpicking at this point. However, the 4.5 has a little bit of a tilt to it. I feel like I’m trying to decide who is more beautiful, Christy Brinkley or Elizabeth Hurley. I guess I’d sell whichever one brings back the most $$ since they are so close in eye appeal.

kmac32 10-20-2021 12:32 PM

Defintely the PSA 4.5

agreed

The corners look better on the 4.5 but I like the look of of the back of the 6 looks cleaner IMO then the 4.5

But again both are great cards. but the 4.5 being in a PSA may sell for more if they were both in the same auction

charlietheexterminator 10-20-2021 12:58 PM

Both cards are beautiful. I would take the PSA 4.5 over the SGC 6

Wildfireschulte 10-20-2021 01:12 PM

Tyrus has more rosy cheeks on the 4.5, and I love rosy cheeks.

perezfan 10-20-2021 01:19 PM

At first glance, I prefer the 4.5. But a PSA 4.5 could conceivably have a small crease or surface wrinkle which fails to show up in the scan. The SGC card (in that 6 grade) could not have a crease.

So based on the images, it's definitely the 4.5, but in-hand it might be the SGC 6.... Just because creases are a deal-breaker for me personally.

I would sell the Christie Brinkley, who although still gorgeous is getting a little long-in-the-tooth. Hang on to the Liz. You will reap the rewards.

3-2-count 10-20-2021 01:43 PM

I had to go back and forth on these a few times before finally settling on the 4.5.

I wouldn't kick either of them out of bed though ;)

I think it was the lower left corner on the 4.5 that dinged it. Under magnification I don't see any wrinkles or creases on it.
The bottom part of the 6 looks better than the bottom part of the 4.5. Tough call..

Great advice John. I'll break the news to Christie later tonight. I will make sure to let her down easy. :D

chadeast 10-20-2021 02:44 PM

Assuming it's not a difference in scanner settings, the PSA 4.5 due to the more vivid colors.

Directly 10-20-2021 04:06 PM

Question--so which Cobb is worth more dollars--the SGC 6 or PSA 4.5?

GasHouseGang 10-20-2021 04:18 PM

I guess I'd have to go with the PSA because that's a PREMIUM 1 $1000/card case it's in. :D "Buy the case, not the card"

Aquarian Sports Cards 10-20-2021 05:39 PM

I like the SGC 6 better.

brob28 10-20-2021 06:00 PM

The 4.5 looks much more vivid, for that reason that would be my choice.

notfast 10-20-2021 06:12 PM

I’d take the SGC.

But I’d also like to acquire the 4.5 for my 4 and some cash 😂

Sgc 6

Gorditadogg 10-20-2021 07:00 PM

Easy choice for me, the SGC has less wear, I would take that one first.

As a centering freak, both pass muster to me. Only then do I look at the back, and the SGC wins there pretty easily.

Leon 10-21-2021 07:30 AM

It yawl look at the numbers in the poll they are almost dead even. And if I vote for the 6 it would be even (as of a few minutes ago). I haven't voted because I don't know!! And that is how I ended up with 2.
.

tiger8mush 10-21-2021 08:12 AM

I'd choose the psa example due to stronger bolder image and perfect focus/registry.

The sgc appears to have a slight color shift and throws off the image detail just a bit, and washed out colors compared to the psa example.

But either would look nice in my binder :)

My SGC 4, which I've had since the late 1990s:

G1911 10-21-2021 12:16 PM

The PSA, by a long shot, if the images accurately reflect the color. It's a bolder image, and the back stock is less toned, in the images at least. The SGC is also a little off register (note the ear, cap).

In my eyes, corners and borders are there to 1) take damage and leave the image crisp and 2) hide the fact that cutting sheets isn't perfect. Image quality > border and corner wear, though these two are pretty similar their anyways. As a low grade broke loser collector, that the hobby doesn't care that much about the actual card image in general is a very nice thing.

Yoda 10-21-2021 12:37 PM

As a sub topic, how about a poll of the T205 Tyrus with backs other than Piedmont or SC? I have one: a SGC4 with an American Beauty-Green. Sorry, as usual, no scan.

Deertick 10-22-2021 09:39 PM

I chose the 4.5 with the caveat that it gets reholdered in an SGC flip. I think it presents some much nicer without the red and white billboard distraction.

Leon 10-23-2021 11:45 AM

55-54

As it stands it is 55 votes for the SGC 80 and 54 votes for the PSA 4.5....and I haven't voted :). This poll confirmed my opinion. They are the same LOL.....
Thanks to all who voted so far

btw, John S, any member can do a poll, just sayin'....:p

puckpaul 10-23-2021 12:42 PM

I like the SGc better. The rounded corners make the PSA inferior despite the better color and registration. The SGC color and registration are generally ok on their own but look worse next to the PSA.

CobbSpikedMe 10-24-2021 10:51 AM

I chose the PSA only because it looks brighter with better color than the SGC. I prefer cards in SGC holders but if I'm just look at the cards, I like the one that just happens to be in a PSA holder.

.

mrreality68 10-24-2021 11:42 AM

amazing that the 2 different grades and it pretty much is a split decision.

Regardless Leon you have 2 nice cards.

And any one of us would love to have either one in our collections

midmo 10-24-2021 11:46 AM

Both are really nice, but I prefer the PSA simply because of the sharp registration. Maybe it's because I just woke up, but I feel a little cross-eyed when I look at the SGC version.

Snowman 10-24-2021 01:17 PM

I'd take the SGC 6. It has better centering and the corner differences are negligible to me. The slight tilt on the 4.5 would drive me nuts, and the back of the 6 is considerably better than the 4.5. But both are great cards either way!

egri 10-24-2021 01:32 PM

Both are great cards. I like the 4.5 a little bit better, but I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
