Trivia For Dummies - Winner, winner, chicken dinner

If you know the answer, you are disqualified, please do not post.

If you don't know the answer, without references just take a wild stab.

Twentieth century leader in consecutive complete games, a record that will never be broken.

Clues may be forthcoming.

mrreality68 10-22-2021 07:53 PM

When I think of complete games I think of Warren Spahn.

Not sure if he the consecutive “king” but he was a finisher

chalupacollects 10-22-2021 07:53 PM

Mickey Lolich - no pic...

riggs336 10-22-2021 07:58 PM

I looked it up. You are definitely going to have to give clues.

chadeast 10-22-2021 08:10 PM

Wild guess is Joe McGinnity (sp?) only because I know they called him Iron Man.

egri 10-22-2021 08:22 PM

Carl Pavano :D

Wild guess, Jack Chesbro?

philliesfan 10-22-2021 08:22 PM

A. Joss?

philliesfan 10-22-2021 08:23 PM

Just looked it up.......I am a dummy.

todeen 10-22-2021 08:28 PM

If Philliesfan is a dummy, I'm going to say Steve Carlton.

Big Train?

frankbmd 10-22-2021 08:39 PM

In one season during the streak he made 10 errors, but only 6 of them while he was the pitcher.

Ohtani is not the correct answer.

philliesfan 10-22-2021 08:52 PM

I see what you did there.........No, I am just a dummy.

Cooper1927 10-22-2021 09:06 PM

Babe Ruth? Your clue about errors…

Not Babe Ruth, but this pitcher changed teams in the midst of the streak.

Mark17 10-23-2021 12:10 AM

Vic Willis?

tjb1952tjb 10-23-2021 12:47 AM

Grover Cleveland Alexander? Just a wild guess..............

brianp-beme 10-23-2021 12:53 AM

President Franklin D. Roosevelt. I've heard he was a canasta wizard who could never say no to another game.

You said 20th century leader.

Winner, winner chicken dinner

Jack Taylor had 187 consecutive complete games from 1901-1906 pitching for both St. Louis and Chicago. He was more than willing to fill in between starts at several positions accounting for the 4 errors at third base in a clue. In his career he started nearly 300 games and was relieved only 8 times. He has rolled over in his grave in Ohio several times watching this years postseason games. Jack is not in the Hall of Fame, but does have two baseball cards. Here's one of them. What's the other?

And if this thread taught you anything,

You don't know Jack

but now you do;)

Here is our man (not mine, plucked from the www). Any fellow who could toss that many consecutive complete games without breaking down is, man, wow...

Taylor is listed in the E107 set but I definitely don't have one to post.

mrreality68 10-23-2021 12:35 PM

I guess I flunked the test

Given 100 chances I cannot say I would have guessed it

Fun fact: I had no clue, so I went ahead and looked it up. On one link, they had the career complete game winners for active players. The top 10 on that list have a total of 199 complete games.

Peter_Spaeth 10-23-2021 04:06 PM

And I was impressed with Robin Roberts' 28.

I had to really do some keyboard pecking to locate this image on the internet...the E107 of Jack Taylor. That consecutive complete game streak is something hard to believe.

Taylor had one heck of a 1902 season, track his stats down for that year if you have the chance. Another fun fact is that he completed 279 out of the 287 games he started in his career, and 5 of those 8 incomplete games came in his final MLB season in 1907!

That is a great LINK and that is a WOW stat

Times have changed

Buythatcard 10-24-2021 06:54 AM

Great record. I had to look it up. Here are some more stats on him.

During his ten year career in the MLB, Taylor started 287 games and completed 279 of them, 20 of those via a shutout. So, to put this into perspective, when Jack Taylor started a game, he finished it 97% of the time.
