Forged Counterfeit Sandy Koufax

1 Attachment(s)
I sent to a message to Ebay seller Showpiecessports informing them, that their Sandy Koufax "2000 UP SP Authentic" card is one of the forged/counterfeit versions, but I have not heard back and the listing is still active.

If anyone here knows them, maybe they can convince them to take it down.

This is the first I've heard of counterfeit versions of this card. What are the tells? I'll have to take a close look at the one I own...

Thank you, Jarrod.

I don't post much these days, or comment, as I am tired of it all, but these forged/counterfeit cards really piss me off.

On the day Kobe Bryant was killed, two sellers from NJ sold over 50 forged/counterfeit Kobe Bryant "2000-01 UP Ovation" cards in eight hours after he was killed in that accident.

If you don't know autographs, the "tell" on this card is the reverse.

Below is a photo of a the back of the card.

The "Sandy Koufax" should be close to the inside border of the card.

The counterfeit versions are all miss-cut and have chipping issues.

Thanks for posting this. I wonder how hard somebody studies a card like this before they buy it.

The genius of these cards, is that the COA is embedded on the card (Topps, Upper Deck, etc).

I know seasoned collectors who have been fooled by these forged/counterfeit versions because the autograph isn't given a second look; it's assumed it's authentic.

PSA has screwed up on a few of these these.

Below is a photo showing where PSA graded a counterfeit Koufax.

Note that they didn't authenticate the autograph; they only graded the card.

But that in itself fools buyers; buyers assume because the card is slabbed by PSA, that they also certed it.

I have wondered sometimes looking at some of the 2003-04 UD Legendary Signature cards.

Yes, I forget what year it was, but I believe Upper Deck bypassed the 3rd-Party authenticator on some of those cuts and they got burned.

I was one of them; Upper Deck had to eventually send me another Connie Mack cut, and it took them six months.
