Wax Pack Wrappers Question

I have watched a few wax pack openings on Youtube recently, and invariably when cracked from grading slabs the wrappers seem stiff and crunchy like plastic coated paper, and highly glossy. This is not how I remember them from my youth at all. I have 2 wrappers that I picked up a few months ago, a 1953 Bowman color and a 1961 Topps, and both look and feel how I remember them. Both are slightly glossy, somewhat soft, not stiff or crunchy at all, and have a waxy feel, thus the name, wax packs. What gives?

Sounds like the packs on YouTube might have been recently wrapped.

Jingram — have an at least one unopened pack with each Topps set and agree with you on feel and appearance. Since I believe that the value of what I hope lies in them is almost surely greater than what actually does lie in them, I do not open mine on U tube. I do encourage Bob to open his though

Also you have to really closely inspect those staples in the Christmas rack packs and the location of the candy canes to be sure you have the real deal ;)

Hmm, storage issue, maybe?

Can you really tell about the "feel" of the wrappers just by looking at them on the Tube? Maybe there is some hanky-panky going on there for video viewing hits, but then again, maybe a lot of old wax packs were stored unprotected in hot or dry conditions.

I missed the part where the packs were in slabs, so my thought is now "probably fine albeit crunchy." ;)
