Sosa Auto Ball

Posted By: Dave
Bought this a an estate auction. After the auction an elderly lady came over and mentioned it was the pride of her husbands collection. She pointed out the 64/129 and said it was sosa's 64th hr ball. Not sure I believe her but didn't they put marks on those balls when mcguire and sosa were hitting them. The ball is very poorly shrink wrapped. Is there any way to check her story Thanks Dave
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Posted By: William
Nice ball. I only find little league balls when I go to yard sales. The 64 represents it's number in the edition, and the 129 represents the total number in the edition. Sammy hit 66 in 1998 and 63 in 1999, add em up and you get 129. Your ball was likely signed in the off season prior to the 2000 season. Aside from not being prepped for game use, the umpire or clubhouse attendant would have had to be either psychic or very lucky with numbers to mark the ball in that manner in 1998. Nice story though.

Limited editions are usually official products, such as being signed at a private signing or under contract with a marketer. A Sosa signature obtained by a kid in the parking lot obviusly isn't going to be limited edition numbered out of 129.
