Your Most Hideous Card

1 Attachment(s)
Figured this might be a good topic as many of us will stoop to any level to complete a set or acquire a tough type card. I'm talking primarily about condition, though I suppose a weird/creepy pose would suffice, as well. Picked this one up in a trade with a fellow board member for an equally dreadful card several months back. It used to be a 1909 Obak.

jrhatchjr 12-24-2009 11:48 AM

My specialty

Nice Obak :)

I could claim this thread as my own as this is the type of stuff I collect...and I love it!

To start here are some caramel HOF'ers: E93 Grifith, E101 Bresnahan, E220 Frisch and E120 Grimes.

GoldenAge50s 12-24-2009 12:07 PM

Jr--

I'm sure you will be PROUD to know I think those are 4 of the "most hideous" cards I have ever seen in one place! CONGRATULATIONS! :D

I do have a really trashed 1960 Topps Frank Robinson that I picked up out of a gutter in 1960, but I don't have a scan. Intact, but showing signs of lengthy submersion.

Hmmm...one of these cards is not like the others...can you guess which one it is? :D

Fred 12-24-2009 04:39 PM

I almost feel like I have to take one of my T cards and do what people do to make a reprint look like an authentic card so that I can properly "contribute" something to this thread.

I hope everyone has a safe and pleasant holiday season.

GrayGhost 12-24-2009 05:08 PM

LOL. what an awesome thread. Some of those cards are pretty HIDEOUSLY DISFIGURED, but authentic at least. I can't wait to see more.

Wow! It looks like my E120 Alexander came from the same collection as JR's Frisch and Grimes, shown above. Cooooool!!! And, I got this two-pieces-for-one Old Judge McPhee 'cause it saved me a butt load of quarters! Merry Christmas, everyone.

BleedinBlue 12-24-2009 05:51 PM

I used to think this was hideous...

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/43477426@N06/4212300300/" title="1941 Goudey 27R Bill Crouch 14932823 by Brian Coats, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/4212300300_d662f66084.jpg" width="500" height="423" alt="1941 Goudey 27R Bill Crouch 14932823" /></a>

But after seeing some of the ones posted I think this looks pretty decent now.

Certainly one of my most loved....As most of us know there were about 50 of these found in an old barn and I think they were all nailed to the walls and burnt...(only 3 holes would have been a big improvement on this one!!)

Jason Carota 12-24-2009 09:23 PM

The cornerstone of my collection is by far the most hideous (but I love it :) ):

GrayGhost 12-25-2009 11:30 AM

On this page, my favorite is the Cobb. There are literally entire internal sections missing. This is incredible..

quinnsryche 12-25-2009 11:52 AM

Hideous!

Honest-to-GOD, I had no idea people actually collected cards like that! If you love 'em - more power to you, but I could NEVER have a card like that in my collection. My neat freakishness just wouldn't allow it. Keep up the good work guys and leave the mid to high grades for us anally retentive types!

Tsaiko 12-25-2009 11:57 AM

My most hideous. A hideous shame :)

JR,
Too funny! Apparently, some kid was using the FRONTS of his cards for checklists or something. What in the world was he thinking?! I think it's amazing that these hideous cards have survived for us cheapskates to collect. Love it! :)

Here is some more from this illustrious former collection

Couldn't resist this thread and knew I had to post some scans when I had the opportunity. Although I may never reach Mr. Hatch's low standards, I certainly have given it the old school try over the years. Enjoy, and I advise you shut down your gag reflex.

GrayGhost 01-01-2010 07:18 PM

Description on that card sir. Some creases and corner wear, but has wonderful Patina and color consistent with it's antiquity. ;)

GREAT THREAD.

Now for some Pacific Coast Leaguetrocities. The two cards on the bottom right of the bottom row are D310's and should be larger than the 1911 Zeenut to their left.

The 2 D310's show the green vs brownish tints we recently had the discussion on.

Very nice cards posted by all. I might be able to dig up a few more also. Some of them give me a chuckle and if ya' can't chuckle what have we come to? :)
