Mile High & Legendary
Both auction previews are now up for their November auctions.
Great selection of cards. Tony |
Legendary is going to be brutal, at least for me. There are many interesting lots, all with deceptively low starting prices.

What are people's thoughts on lot #277 in the Legendary Auction, the c.1882 Detroit team cabinet? Do you see Hanlon and Bancroft in this photo?
Thanks! Charles |
Why does lot 125 have a numerical grade? I thought the borders were larger on the J=K cards.

Wow, SGC made a really nice holder for your card! Congrats to them (and to you).

Charles:
I'm not a photo ID expert but I believe that Legendary has both Hanlon & Bancroft identified correctly. |

I don't want to change the direction of this thread but I still don't understand the grading standards.... how the heck can a numerical grade be assigned to cards/memorabilia that is obviously not factory cut?
|
no different than.....

Leon,
You can probably guess all the directions this can take. I still think that grading a Zeenut with the coupon removed is no different than grading an OJ with the Old Judge ad removed from the bottom. The Zeenut with the coupon removed doesn't meet the size requirement of a full Zeenut from that year. Rather than go on I'll just stop there because this is going to be a case of opinions. One more thing, I've seen the grading companies have a lot of latitude on hand cut card sizes. They should publish a size criteria for hand cut cards so that everyone understands what is going to receive a numeric grade and what is going to get slabbed AUTH. |

I think the thing that really bugs me most is the hand cut cards that are graded 7's, 8's and 9's. You know, the ones that look like they could have been cut in the recent past.... It would be nice to have a committee of dedicated collectors that comes up with a standard for all grading companies. Call it the Net54baseball Standards. They have industry standards for so many things and it serves a good purpose... ok, I'm blowing off steam again... time to chill out and grab a bottle of brew...

Mile High Lot #1
I just noticed in Mile High's auction, that the complete 1914 Cracker Jack set lot descritpion has been amended. It is not a complete set, it is missing 2 cards. The revision is showing up at the end of the description.
My question is, why don't they revise the auction title as well? Tony |

Maybe the grading companies could offer a new trimming service. Submit for grading and trimming if guaranteed a minimum grade of 7? This would be a good candidate:
