T206 Pricing Question...

Hi. I am asking the T206 experts here on a general price range on a T206 card I just got graded. It is a T206 Bill Dahlen Brooklyn with a Piedmont 350 back. It was just slabbed by BVG a 4.5. Since the PSA SMR guide is a little off on graded T206 sometimes, what's the possible sell price on a card like this? Under the PSA pop report for Piedmont backs, only 4 5s and 4 6s even exist with most grading a 4. So does my 4.5 give it an edge? I might post it for sale here, but since I do not see Brooklyn Dahlen's graded this well too often, I wanted to ask. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Andrew

Hi Andrew
A scan would be nice but, I would guess somewhere between $375-$500 depending on eye appeal.

It will arrive tomorrow from BGS, so no scan yet. It was in a PSA 4 holder when I bought it for $585. I graded it through BVG because I was going to hold onto it, but instead need to sell it. I do realize most prefer PSA/SGC graded vintage, but it is well-protected in a BVG holder and must have been under-graded by PSA. I can post a scan when it arrives if that helps.

Well Andrew, I probably guessed a little low.

Hi Andrew,

I hate to rain on your parade, but you paid a very high price for your card. Before you bought your PSA 4, VCP shows 18 sales of that card in PSA 4 between $180-$285. None even close to what you paid. In fact, no PSA 5 was even recorded as being sold for more than $515 (and several under $500).

Cheers,
Blair

No parade here. I won in standard auction format so it was bid up to that price. I did not buy it with a outrageous best offer so the price was determined by bids. Of course the auction must have been an anomaly. No big deal as I will probably sell the same way. Thanks for the pricing info.

shill

You may have been the victim of shill bidding

Most of the T206 Hall of Famers in the PSA 5 or SGC 60 grade can be found for the $585 price paid for the Dahlen. Except for the Cobbs, Mattys, Youngs, Johnson, and Lajoie. And it never makes financial sense to cross over to BVG.

In the future, its best to watch several similar auctions on the sidelines to see where the card ends up on average before you bid, so you don't overpay.

I appreciate everybody's info. I went back and viewed the bid history on my auction and there was only 7 other bids besides mine from 6 different ebay ids over a 7 day auction which makes shilling less likely. As for watching other auctions, Dahlen Brooklyn's don't show up every month, so it's a little to hard to wait and see a price average. As for the BVG grading, I know the premium exist for PSA/SGC, but first intent was not to sell this card but to keep and I prefer BVG holders a ton. Unfortunately, I need cash now, so it will be run on auction. I have seen battered, creased Dahlen Brooklyn's sell for $160 so $180 possibly for a PSA 4 seems a tad low. Nonetheless, I agree I'm not savvy on T206 that much. Thank you for the tips.
