Earl Averill Salutation Exhibit....How 'Rare'??

Hello all. I've been lurking for about a year now and enjoy reading the board on a regular basis. Now, this is my 1st post/question for the board....

Just wondering how 'rare' the 1939 Earl Averill Salutation Exhibit card really is? I know the PSA population report is 8, but why does it have extra value compared to similar HOF's in that set? I'm guessing it was a short print, but I'm curious what others know about it. Thanks......Matt

Hi Matt,

Glad to see a new person posting.

As far as your question, the Salutations were printed from 1939-46, a number of the cards were only printed for a year or two while others were printed every year and a few were even printed with the 1947-66 exhibits. The Feller pitching was printed into the late 1950's and the Ted Williams without number into the 1960's.

The Earl Averill was one of those only printed one year, along with the Gehrig, and a few others, they are extreemly hard to find much less in nice condition. I have been working on the set for years and i still need 6 to complete. I do have the Averill thou.

I hope that helps,
Scott
