Boston Shriner's Show - N54 meetup Saturday 4/2

Hi guys,

Erich W. and I were chatting this week, and wanted to see if we can plan our usual meetup at the Boston Shriners Show for Saturday 4/2 at noon.

All Net54 members are welcome to join - we've usually met in the autograph / food area near the bar at the back of the room, then find a place to sit, chat, show off any new pickups, etc.

Hope to see any and all next week!
Scott

Hi-
I will be there for the meetup on Saturday. I hope we get even more folks than the November show.

Looks like a storm heading my way on Friday, so I doubt I will make it to the show. It was going to be my son's first real show. I was also going to bring a couple of totes full of my Red Sox stuff to maybe consign to an auction as the enonomy has forced me to raise some cash.

Hi all, I plan to make it, but have been under the weather all week. I hope to improve enough to make the meeting and walk the floor looking for new goodies...Best, Erich

have fun, guys!

I hope you all have fun and find some nice cards at the show. I live 45 minutes from the convention center and participated in the first twenty something events but these days it's too much for me to do the room.
I'll be there in spirit, though!
I'd like to wish you all the best for a fun time in my wonderful home area.
Enjoy the weekend,
Bill Hedin:D

Anyone attend the show today?

I'm curious as to whether anyone attended the show today? If so, were there many vintage dealers?

Thanks in advance,

Patrick

Yes there was a number of Vintage dealers. Inventory at a few tables was decent, overall a little sparse. I picked up a few things, saw a board member to two as well. The show in November is much much better. BTW guys got tickets to the Bruin's tomorrow so I will miss the meeting...again. See anyone Sunday who still wants to come down!

Ted, thanks for the update. Sounds similar to last year's spring show - not as good as November, but at least we have an option for a big show in the area during the spring.

Lefty Grove....

If any of you guys go to the show this weekend and happen to see any rare, unusual or interesting Lefty Grove stuff, please send me an email at brad_green@cox.net . Please be sure to get the dealer's contact info for me. I would really appreciate any help that you guys are willing to provide.... Have fun at the show!

I arrived at the show this morning at 10am. The number of dealer tables was about comparable to the Spring show last year less maybe 5-7. The November show was almost twice as large. Overall, I was very disappointed with what the dealers were offering. A quarter of the tables were reserved for auction houses, another quarter to a third were reserved for the shiny stuff, and the remaining balance was a collection of uninteresting and overpriced prewar cards and memorabilia. Historically, I've bought far more prewar memorabilia than cards at the Shriners. But there was very little offered here that caught my attention.

I was able to briefly catch up with Scott and Steve on my way out. I couldn't make the lunch since I'm still a little sick. Sorry guys! Hope you all had fun and maybe more luck than I had!!!

Hi-
I had a great time both at the meetup and the show. Yes, it was a smaller show than November (and smaller than last April), but the quality was excellent as usual. I sold some items, but I also worked a couple of trades that made the show for me. My favorite trade was with Josh Evans from Lelands. I am an anitquer, but I rarely find 500.00 items, so most auction house tables do not even want to see what I have. Josh however, has purchased multiple items from me and always takes the time to look at my stuff and help me with historical information and value.
Below is a cell phone picture of me holding the item I obtained in trade from Josh. It is almost five feet tall, and has all of the hallmarks of a late nineteenth century or early twentieth century ring bat. He cannot remember where he got it, but thought it might have been a store sign. I will take better pictures of it and post a thread in the memorabilia side over the weekend to see if anyone else can provide any ideas about its origins.
The best part of the show was walking the piece around in the afternoon. The meetup was excellent as well and it was great to see everyone's recent pickups, as well as discussing the recent beantown find. I am already looking forward to November's show.
