Josh Gibson... Are there any Josh Gibson baseball cards to collect? I'm not talking about cards issued after his death. Thanks! ~Bill |

If memory serves me, there is a known postcard from his playing days. It almost looks like an exhibit, but I think there are only one or two copies known. Other than that he didn't have a produced card until after his death. I could be incorrect though. |

The 1950-51 Toleteros Puerto Rican card is the only remotely obtainable period card of Gibson, and even it was issued a couple years after Gibson's death. And it is VERY pricey! But they do appear in major auctions nearly every year or so. |

Bill, Great question. I have often wondered the same thing. |

Gibson Postcard Old Cardboard published a mini-article on the Gibson postcard in eNewsletter Issue #20 (December 2005). The article can be viewed at http://www.oldcardboard.com/eNews/20.../eNews20.htm#5 and also contains a link to a profile of the Harrison Studios set, of which the Gibson card is a part. Hope this helps, Lyman |
