Please help identify these boxing cards
Hello friends,
I made a couple of recent additions to my Jack Dempsey collection and I'm having a hard time identifying a couple of recent pick ups. First off... http://packgeek.files.wordpress.com/..._chocolate.jpg http://packgeek.files.wordpress.com/...chocolate2.jpg Thank you in advance for any help. Jeff |
Never seen that one before. Interesting card.

It's a new one for me too. It's not on any of the PSA registry sets, so I've been trying to do a little research of my own. I have at least one other Dempsey card from the late 20's or early 30's that I can't find info on.
|
There are many European sets that are uncataloged, primarily from Spain, Italy and France. Did you grab that other Spanish Dempsey that was recently sold?
|
Closest I can find so far...Not really a whole lot of info though. At least we know there's at least one more boxer in the set.

There's all sorts of early boxing stuff floating around from Europe and Latin America. US Customs has at least two lots of cards that I know of (they were my Ebay purchases that made it to customs and vanished--perhaps stored next to the Ark? Where's Indiana Jones when you need him?).
|
Sorry to hear that. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with customs yet. What do you think they're red-flagging?
|
Nothing; I think they just got lost. One set of cards from Siam ca. 1920s sent by a seller in the UK via their version of registered mail disappeared in the customs section of the USPS in NY. Another group of cards from Argentina disappeared too. Not sure where in the chain. Both were irreplaceable. I got my $$ back on paypal claims but I'd rather have had the cards. The UK seller's mistake was sending them registered; that's the only problem I've ever had with a purchase from the UK. I've had cards coming from Venezuela take over a month to clear customs but they got here eventually.
