T206 World; Pollyanna or Chicken Little?

So far, a BIG FAT collective yawn from the prewar card community. If I may, a little recap. Lets see; SCP list and sells an impossible front back T206 Mathewson portrait combination. A sophisticated card doctor is once again wrecking havoc in our little world. Are we in any shape or manner holding SCP accountable for not even having the decency of providing a disclaimer. Perhaps the card doctor and submitter are one in the same? Why did SCP have a small batch of great looking PSA authentic cards in their auction? Does anybody have an answer to any of that???

"I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing!" Is everybody cool and comfy?

PSA seems to get a free "get out of jail" card as well, but I won't bother you with that ramble.

As you were.

Lovely Day...

refresh my memory

Hey Iggy
I don't think anyone gets a free pass on purpose. Sometimes folks just don't comment for no apparent reason. Can you refresh my memory? Was this issue in their last auction?

For me...it's a case of the little boy who cried "t206." I'm so sick of the overanalysis of T206 as of lately...that I have zero interest in them anymore!!! But that's just me...there are still plenty of ga ga T206 collectors out there!

I'm talking about this T206 thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...highlight=t206

It's not mentioned in the thread, but my understanding is that SCP was notified prior to the auction ending about the T206 Mathewson Sovereign 460.

Peter, I'm sure it's nothing personal but did I hit your T206 tipping point? Yeah me!

Lovely Day...

definitely wasn't you, rich...in fact I can't imagine it was any one person/incident...just a culmination of many...I'm T206'd out...I think for good...and that's ok w/me! You guys can have all 100 gazillion of them!!!!!

Peter,

Fair enough, but this thread isn't really about T206 cards. The real question is...........................are auction houses accountable for anything??? If you sell an impossible T206 front back combination, is that okay? Is it responsible for an auction house (which supposedly specializes in cards since 1979) to not have anybody on staff which can determine the authenticity of a few W554 cards???

The last line is hilarious........"as we are not sure if they are a reproduction." This from an auction house which deals in prewar cards???? Is that okay?

Lovely Day...

To answer your question...in light of transgressions by most major auction houses over the years...it seems...to me...that auction houses are NOT really accountable for their auctions...but they obviously should be. And any respectable...responsible auction house would NOT sell an item of questionable authenticity even with a disclaimer.

Pete, I'm trying to help you rid these as fast as I can :)

There was a repro Rucker in a Hunt lot last month that the board caught, they said it would be pulled immediately yet the lot still sold. Not sure if it was removed after

There shouldn't be an expectation that everything is caught, some of these b/f combos get complex but if the collecting community points something out then it should be actioned on.

Pete, I'm glad to see that you are still posting in all of the T206-related threads, keeping them alive and well! :)

That was definitely one of the crazier things I've ever seen from one of the larger auction houses. You expect that kind of line from a scammer or a clueless seller on ebay. If this were a completely new issue or something like that W-UNC Universal Toy panel that SCP struggled with at their previous Monthly auction, I could somewhat understand. However, W554's aren't that rare. If they weren't sure the lot was authentic, they should have just sent the Gehrig in for grading/authentication.
