2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone collect Harold A Perris of Lake George stamps cards?
|
|
Looks like Harold took better care of his T204s than his T206s.
Best, Andy |

Looks like that antique shop was around from about 1959 through the 1960s based on his newspaper advertisements.

Or maybe he gave T206s away as business cards because they were still a dollar or less at this time. |

His stamp is found on a few T204's, I think I still have one or two.
|
It’s possible on T218 as well, I had or have a Battling Nelson with it over the Mecca branding on back.

Back-stamps

The Perris back-stamp is one that I've long admired.
Here are the five that I have. Interesting that he was operating c. 1959-60. His stamp does seem fresher, more lucid than the older ones. I have seen his stamp on other backs, though I don't recall which. In the case of this back-stamp, I don't think the stamp devalues the card; quite the opposite, beautifully done as it is, I think it raises the value. It seems to me that has been the trend with back-stamps for a long time, that they have risen in value, generally, a little more than unstamped cards. That was not the case when I started collecting T206's in the early 2000's. Back then a back-stamp generally devalued the card a little. In a small way, back-stamps immortalize the named stamper, maybe something like a cardboard tombstone. Their spirits live on as we say their names. I'm not going to back-stamp my own collection, though. No tombstone either; I've decided on cremation. But not for the cards! Those I'll pass on to you. |

I thought it would be nice to put a face to the stamp. I found that he owned the Antique store from as early as 1941 and was still dealing in Antiques into the late 1980's and he was also an autioneer.
