Holy Smokes Honus Wagner card....what is this card?

Ebay link:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Holy-Smokes-H...item338139de85

Zone91 04-22-2013 05:36 PM

Ebay Item number: 221211385477

Is this card actually worth 250 000$ or close to that?

Paul S 04-22-2013 05:43 PM

The big striped bow tie is what sold me on it.

Zone91 04-22-2013 05:44 PM

This whole thing looks more like smoke to me....but I may be very wrong!!!

Bocabirdman 04-22-2013 05:48 PM

It is obvious to me that he is charging per typed word. He sure is long-winded.:D

Paul S 04-22-2013 05:51 PM

It was the C$ 0.97 that cancelled the deal.

slidekellyslide 04-22-2013 05:55 PM

That's longer than the Unabomber's manifesto.

Zone91 04-22-2013 05:56 PM

Hahahaha you guys are funny!!!:D

KCRfan1 04-22-2013 06:08 PM

Ha Ha, the seller found the " card " at a flea market for $5.00. Makes LOTS of assumptions about the Super Monster Rare Wagner that this is in fact, a Wagner. After you buy the card, you can do the " Scientific " leg work to ensure the " card " is legit, as mentioned in a VERY long and rambling " description ". To boot, the seller also has some stained glass for sale to help you feel comfortable about ponying up a quarter of a million dollars. This guy is clearly in the know when it comes to vintage cards. Three " people " have made offers? Just when you think you may have seen it all......

AMBST95 04-22-2013 06:14 PM

This is one of the craziest diatribes I've read. I had to stop halfway through. I made it to the "queen of baseball cards". Scrolled, read FBI facial recognition, and scrolled again. Hilarious.

Thanks for sharing.

Matthew H 04-22-2013 06:27 PM

Wow, that thing has had three offers... I sure hope it wasn't you adrian :)

Even if it was proven to be Honus, I can't see it selling for anywhere near that much coin.

e107collector 04-22-2013 06:38 PM

Wagner

I've seen a few pictures of a young Honus Wagner, and that does not resemble him on that card, in my opinion.

You actually got halfway through?

You're a better man than I, sir!

auggiedoggy 04-22-2013 06:44 PM

P.T. Barnum

Three offers????

Will P.T. Barnum be proven correct yet again?

CW 04-22-2013 07:04 PM

Mine was one of them. Offered 5 bucks.:)

It was promptly declined.

brookdodger55 04-22-2013 07:08 PM

Has to be one of the longest description in ebay history:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Zone91 04-22-2013 07:17 PM

Matthew H

No not me I have ZERO intentions to buy this card!!! I have one card I want still it is the T206 Bill O'Hara St-Louis variation in a 2 a 3 or a 4.

To be honest not much a fan of Honus either....I enjoy his T206 card but that is it for me. I know he was a great player and all!!!

Your'e lucky it was declined, I doubt it's worth that much. :D

Sean 04-22-2013 07:25 PM

By the way, wasn't Pittsburgh spelled without the "H" back in the 1890s?

scooter729 04-22-2013 07:38 PM

It says at the bottom of the listing that it was "Posted with the eBay Android app".

You mean to tell me he typed all that with a PHONE and not a computer??? I hate writing more than a sentence from my phone!

I knew he wasn't going to accept it. Thought he might give me a kurt remark or some absurd counter offer.

Unfortunately he did not.:(

Julz24 04-22-2013 09:37 PM

By far, the most difficult and rambling description I've ever read, er skimmed...

jcmtiger 04-22-2013 10:02 PM

I could not read the complete description., Oh Well!!!

Joe

Shoele$$ 04-22-2013 10:24 PM

It must have been because he had already received a higher offer.

drc 04-23-2013 12:16 AM

If the card doesn't he can sell the description in book form.

Tolstoy, he isnt.

arc2q 04-23-2013 07:28 AM

This is staggering. When the description is copied to Word it is 37 pages long and the word count is 11,373.

See? He is only asking $21 a word.:D

drc 04-23-2013 12:28 PM

A very quick summary of the entire auction is: It's not Honus Wagner.

Runscott 04-23-2013 12:31 PM

I don't think I've ever met someone in real life who is capable of typing something like this cdv's description. What do such people look like? How do they behave if you see them sitting in a coffee shop?

I'm once again baffled by humanity.

terjung 04-23-2013 12:39 PM

Yet another piece falsely claiming to be Honus Wagner.

The two most valuable types of Honus Wagner cards are:

1909 T206 Wagner (probably less than 75 thought to exist) and
1903 E107 Breisch-Williams (4 graded, less than 10 thought to exist)

ctownboy 04-23-2013 12:54 PM

Scott,

If they are autistic and have an obsessive/compulsive disorder also, they wouldn't be sitting in a coffee shop. They would be home editing and adding to the descriptions of their eBay auctions......

David

D. Bergin 04-23-2013 01:52 PM

That is a mind-boggling description.

Here is just a random paragraph, from the middle of this random description I stumbled across.

Quote:

Note ::::: That (((( Perfect Fresh looking Haircut )))) he has on this c.1890 card...as a matter of fact,
Young Honus ,was trained as a Barber as a vocation , before his Baseball profession,
by his older brother ..Charles an established Barber ,in Mansfield,Pa.
So ,he would have,Absolutely,. wanted a [ *Perfect Haircut *] , for this his very 1st Baseball card image.

I don't have the patience to look any further, but I'm sure there's gold nuggets of rock solid provenance like this scattered throughout.

:D

auggiedoggy 04-23-2013 02:03 PM

Honus would be rolling in his grave

I've never seen so much BS crammed into an eBay auction description in my life!!!

Ok, there have been 5 offers on this card. Its gone up by 2 since I last looked at it. Anyone here guilty? ;)

EvilKing00 04-23-2013 04:20 PM

omg longest listing i ever seen, didnt make it through the the 1st few lines.

Peter_Spaeth 04-23-2013 04:29 PM

Random excerpt.

••••••• Even in Pennsylvania today & over a 100 years later ,••••••••••
..............in many small towns, there are just as many Bars.
..............as there are Churches .
There are sometimes as many as ( 10 churches ) and there are at least (10 bars )
or more in many small towns still in Pennsylvania today.

drc 04-23-2013 09:31 PM

My dad said growing up in Minneapolis there was a church and a bar on every block.

I feel cheated. I live in a Pennsylvania small town, and it doesn't have anything close to 10 bars... or 10 churches, for that matter.

Well, there ya go! It's obviously genuine based on the church/bar per town ratio.

thisisradioclash 04-24-2013 02:58 PM

I think I saw that item description written on a bathroom wall somewhere...

Runscott 04-24-2013 04:17 PM

If you ever want to hear an imbecile posing as a wise sage, send this guy an email. It will make you cringe.

uffda51 04-24-2013 04:51 PM

Oh, yeah, that's Wagner

Free shipping!!!

But five minutes of my life I'll never get back after trying to skim
his diatribe . . .

Jlighter 04-24-2013 08:33 PM

This has to be a joke.

He raised the price to 1,000,000.

Dollars, not even Pesos.:)

I submitted an offer for $20, expecting it to get autodelinced. However, it was not. He does offer free shipping, so I improvised a solution, just in case he accepts it.

auggiedoggy 04-25-2013 09:06 AM

P.T. Barnum was right!!!

There are now 8 offers. There are even two offers from the same bidder. Hopefully they are all joke offers. I'd put in an offer of $6.50 but I don't want to lose my good standing with eBay for taunting a seller. ;)

Is the offer currently in "pending" status yours?
