Anyone on board bidding/going to bid on this eBay lot?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/T206-1911-Wh...item4d0c7e5cba

Interested in only one of the cards, the Schaefer at the top left both images. If you want a bidding partner, or just to sell after winning, please let me know.

Thanks. That would be #228 in the rebuilt collection if I can get it. Yes, I am a hoarder.

Try this

Ed --

In lots like that when you need one card, I've found it's just as easy to bid a reasonable amount for the lot, then resell the others. Sometimes you make money, sometimes you lose, but it's easier than trying to find a partner...

Thanks for the responses, guys.

Looks like we may have a plan. Thanks. Ed

Howe’s Hunter 05-13-2013 06:07 AM

In the wise words of Frank ...

"I have no explanation for what happened overnight."

Thats just crazy. No way this lot is worth even one fourth of that. Needless to say, what I was planning on putting in to the pot was no where near what would be needed to pay for 1/5 of that lot.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Time to just sit back and see how stupid some people are.

bbcard1 05-13-2013 06:14 AM

I could see $200 on that lot...Kept looking for something I missed. Why don't things like that ever happen to lots I list?

t206blogcom 05-13-2013 06:17 AM

Perhaps someone really wanted the back stamp? I can't figure out any other justification for the price.

slidekellyslide 05-13-2013 06:42 AM

Zero feedback bidder...let's see if it gets paid for. Surprisingly though someone with over 1200 feedback bid $450 on that lot. Also I'm pretty sure the seller is a member of Net54, too bad he didn't offer that Howe straight out to you Ed.

painthistorian 05-13-2013 07:01 AM

RE this T206 Lot

Hi- I am the seller of this lot under our ID painthistorian...I just woke up and saw this bidding pattern..this zero feedback bidder is unknown to us and has been e mailed to PLEASE give us his real name and actual commitment to bid or he will be cancelled and blocked. All zero feedback bidders are supposed to contact us first and this was not done but in no way can we tell his(her) intentions at this time. By tonight, if this bidder does not contact us, we will do this. This type of bidding cannot be controlled, in one sense, e Bay sellers want bidding action early but we do not tolerate troll bids if this is the case. LARRY

Wise Frank says

that Ed is going to held hostage in Lincoln:eek::eek::eek:, unless he pays the buyer $500 for the McCormick stamp. Can you spell hoarder extortion?

Look at the bright side though, Ed, you will no longer be stuck in Omaha.:D

T206Collector 05-13-2013 07:18 AM

I really believe that everybody who comes across a T206 with Howe McCormick stamped on the reverse has a moral obligation to get the card to Ed. The card should not be put up for auction, or sold on the B/S/T.

It's not like a signed T206, which has an intrinsic value. (Though I'd wish people would just send me their signed T206s!) It's no more than a $15 card in that condition.

Baseball card Karma, folks.

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 07:21 AM

I know Ed can have everyone I come across...

Howe’s Hunter 05-13-2013 07:23 AM

Extortion never works...

Frank and I have had this discussion before. There is a Mullin horizontal that the seller insisted was worth $199. I offered $65 repeatedly, and was finally told he would rather destroy the card than sell to an ass like me. Honestly, I think the two of us had a disagreement on who was the ass in this case...the card was ungraded, no sharp corners, and a large ink spot on the back covering part of the rubber stamp. Also was as best centered 70/30.

But it left one less for me to pursue. Like I've said from the beginning, I'd like them all, but since I have no idea how many that is, and since so many are with Hindu backs (and of course, the three Cobbs that have surfaced...), that will never happen. I'll be happy to get what I can and see how many I end up with before Howe and I get together (where ever that might be) and I can finally found out how many he had. It's a nice obsession that for the most part keeps me out of trouble.

Thanks for the help offered by all in this and any other pursuit. I really appreciate the help of everyone on the board in my strange little quest.

Ed

t206 Collector, I couldn't agree more! I was new to this board last year, and reached out to Ed and sent him the 2 that I had and told him to replace them whenever he got the chance. Lo and behold, Ed replaced the 2 within a month or so. It just felt good to help out a fellow collector, and some things are more important than money. Knowing how much time and effort Ed has put into this project, it would be a nice gesture if painthistorian helped out as well.

bbcard1 05-13-2013 08:57 AM

I haven't found a McCormick, but I did find a purple number stamp for CobbSpikedMe...Passed it along at cost.

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 09:35 AM

I have pmed and pmed with no response. What is the deal with the zero feedback bidder???

Runscott 05-13-2013 09:45 AM

I've bought stuff from Larry (painthistorian) for years - never any issues.

He's handling things exactly the way I have in the past. If the bidder doesn't respond, I block them just to make sure they don't snipe at the end, but even the 0-feedback bidders generally end up being legit.

Howe’s Hunter 05-13-2013 10:38 AM

Thanks for the kind words, Brendan

There are so many, like yourself, who have offered help from the board. I hope that anyone who has let me know of cards they've found, offered to sell or trade, gone in as an auction partner with me, two individuals who have sent surprise packages my way, or even just pointed me in the direction of cards that fit my collection know how much I appreciate it. Thanks to all.

T206Collector 05-13-2013 10:49 AM

As long as I never run across a signed one, you can have any I find. The only name-stamped signed pre-war I've ever come across was this one:

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/1yvqqiPp__O2feeV-Ie7TnY2VLgy2RG_a1rPg51wK6M?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3K6bUVgyY2w/T9fegIeKRYI/AAAAAAAAK_I/TH49mbaEol4/s800/Leifield_AUTO_BURDICK_SGC_JSA_A.jpg" height="730" width="800" /></a>

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 11:30 AM

That is awesome!!

slidekellyslide 05-13-2013 11:55 AM

I didn't know Burdick stamped his cards....is this common?

T206Collector 05-13-2013 12:10 PM

There's some posts about Burdick's stamping prowess on Net54. You can also read my brief "article" about it on my website -- www.T206Collector.com

f.w.i.w. I just noticed the bid on that lot dropped a precipitously. I'm guessing because of the zero feedback bidder.

Bid retraction... but not by the zero feedback bidder.

sb1 05-13-2013 01:29 PM

The zero bidder is probably legit. The retracting bidder was probably the party with intentions of holding Ed hostage. While I am not an Ebay sleuth there are those on the board that can probably ID the retracting bidders identity.

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 01:52 PM

The retracting bidder was legit. The zero feedback bidder has no intentions of paying.

painthistorian 05-13-2013 02:01 PM

painthistorian

We have no idea either of these bidders prior, however this is absolutely not tolerated in our auctions as to retract bids so late without contacting me first and getting our OK!..It is 3:55 PM, just returned from my real job and to see this is pretty zany, did receive a PM that I really do not understand but I understand Late retractions. This is not fair to the bidders that follow our rules, and those are very clearly posted..We will close this auction NOW, and both bidders cannot bid & are blocked temporarily until someone can explain to me why this has occurred and who will be legitimately bidding. THIS IS THE ONLY THING, I DO NOT WANT TO WASTE TIME, hopefully Leon or Dan, could you private message me to let me now which is bidder or if both are OK..Thank You> Larry

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 02:11 PM

You never responded to my PM or message. I am the bid retractor. I am legit...you should know that, as I bought a high dollar card from you before.

painthistorian 05-13-2013 02:39 PM

RE: response

Hi-We posted this morning, then you PM'd between that time and when we returned which was about 6 hours later, we work during the day so patience would be reasonable for a response.

I did see you PM'd, I really do not understand what you were saying in that e mail or why anything got retracted without us OK and agreeing to that thru e bay, that is why I cancelled everything.

I really do not know which ID you use on e bay so post that ID, we will let you bid once relisted, HOWEVER we absolutely will not tolerate anyone with late retractions(within 24-48 hours of close) without prior authorization which will be done same day, usually evenings.

We appreciate you as a customer but no one should retract and do this without considering others, plus from other postings, there is more to this as someone (ZERO BIDDER) bid this up to a very UNREASONABLE amount, (fyi I am not that greedy).

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 03:29 PM

Are we good?? At the very least, block/ban the zero feedback bidder....I do like a snowball's chance if I am going to hell! :D

Bobby-

you need not ever think that this is a path to hell, and yes, this zero bidder is done, all is well in the world of cards for today!...I will now proceed to drink a Blue Moon Ale after this...Cheers, Larry

bobbyw8469 05-13-2013 03:50 PM

Bobby contacted me and resolved whatever issues that have arisen and he also knows that retractions at a late date are not tolerated without prior approval. Larry
