A Day in the Life

I cracked a slab today, oh boy

To free a lucky man who made the grade

Although the grade was really poor

Well I just had to laugh

I'd seen the photograph

Paper loss and creases through his head

No one noticed that the whites had changed

A crowd of people stood and stared

They'd seen his face before

Nobody was really sure if it was Harry Lord.

I won a card today, oh boy

My snipe did win the Ebay bidding war

A crowd of bidders walked away.

But then I took a look,

the seller was indeed a crook

I'd love to turn him in.

Woke up, fell out of bed

Soon the Web, filled my head

Found my way to 54 and drank a cup

And looking up, I saw a new post

Cobb Bat Off, gotta have that

Sent a PM in seconds flat

No response, I had a smoke

When the seller spoke, I went into a dream

Ah

I sold a card today, oh boy

Four thousand holes in Blackburne's chest

and though the holes were rather small

the buyer had to count them all

Now we know how many holes it takes to fill a Neal Ball

I'd love to turn him in.

I suddenly have an urge to put on some paisley and listen to The "Beaters" on vinyl:D

To have time in a day in my life

I wish I had time to be so creative, but even if I did, it still probably wouldn't have come out as well...nice job Frank.

Brian

barrysloate 06-12-2013 12:15 PM

I wonder if Frank wrote that by himself, or with a little help from his friends.

WillowGrove 06-12-2013 12:33 PM

I loved it Frank. It's already at the top of the Net54 Charts.

71buc 06-12-2013 12:41 PM

Backmasking??

Very clever Frank. If We read it backwards what message would we hear? Perhaps something like, "Honus met a mohel...Honus met a mohel".

Tim Fritz 06-12-2013 12:55 PM

Bravo!!!

Bocabirdman 06-12-2013 01:08 PM

I am working on a Jefferson Airplane-inspired ode to PSA.... "Plastic Fantastic Cover". That may have buzzed by some of the younger board members.:D

Surrealistic Pillow and After Bathing at Baxter's are two of my favorite albums.

Barry, simply stated, though the best lineup didn't last long, the Airplane (and Hot Tuna) are on the short list of bands that I will still pull out and listen to from w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y back then.:D I like Pointed Little Head in addition to the two that you mentioned. While we are at it, Quicksilver's Happy Trails is another great one.

barrysloate 06-12-2013 01:32 PM

Never a Tuna fan, but the Airplane were just about my all time favorite band. Unfortunately, they were short lived.

Short-lived indeed, and the Starship did nothing to extend it.

Beatles Guy approved :)

Love that Airplane photo. And Starship was not a good band, even Grace Slick said she hated it. But they had some hit songs.

Information for Gen X, Y & Z and millenials

A Day in the Life was the last track on the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Album. The Baby Boomers obviously know that. The Jefferson Airplane was too high and missed the runway. That led Zeppelin to form a band. The Jackson 5 was not a basketball team. Ultimately all were consumed by the Disco Inferno, then we all realized that we really needed the funk.

EvilKing00 06-12-2013 05:42 PM

that was awesome frank, BUT I have just 1 question.....

"Found my way to 54 and drank a cup"

What were you drinking???????:D

peterose4hof 06-12-2013 09:02 PM

Frank! Absolutely Fantastic!

After reading your post I immediately logged on to youtube and listened to the original Beatles recording as I read/sang your lyrics. I'm sure others must have done the same... right? I can't be the only one.

After that I found myself lost in an endless loop of Beatles songs that lasted a couple of hours. A truly enjoyable evening to say the least.

deadballfreaK 06-12-2013 09:21 PM

I have had a really bad day and reading that made me laugh.

Hot Tuna rules. Just saw them the other day on TV. 70 years old and still kickin!

murcerfan 06-12-2013 09:32 PM

I can't wait to see what you do with Mean Mr. Mustard (Bruces) and She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (GAI)

KCRfan1 06-12-2013 11:45 PM

Well done Frank! I know you had some fun putting that together.

Frank, I don't know what I want more: your comedic talent or your free time! :)

hangman62 06-13-2013 07:54 AM

beatles

Oh that's quite good

Leon 06-13-2013 08:08 AM

Awsome Frank.
I still vote for the Beatles as the best band of all time.

I just had the sudden inclination to go to Youtube and listen to Grace (Airplane) singing White Rabbit. I don't now why......but saw them in 1980-81 at the Greek Amphitheater in LA. It might be the best of over a hundred concerts I have ever seen. It was the Starship, introducing Grace Slick.

ullmandds 06-13-2013 09:18 AM
