Chris Davis First Ever at 53HR's?

For those statistic nuts, has Chris Davis just become the first major leaguer to ever finish a season with exactly 53 home runs? For some reason, I don't believe anybody has ever done that before. Cool.

If only he had started eating his Malto-Meal while he was in Texas :(

He certainly had flashes in Texas, especially when he first came up, and was a monster in the minor leagues. It's not like this came out of nowhere, like say...............Brady Anderson.

If you look at his major league stats, it really is like it came out of nowhere. If the numbers are lying, I'm not getting it.

Look at his rookie year in 2008 and his minor league stats. Major league pitchers figured him out early and it took him awhile to adjust. Power was always there and while not exactly a young phenom, he's still relatively young.

Not much different then a George Foster or Cecil Fielder type. Roger Maris didn't really break out until he was around Chris Davis's age. Baseball history is littered with these guys.

Now the only number in the 50s nobody has ended up with
is the double nickel, 55

I thought 53 was the last unreached number. I guess I was wrong.

The interesting thing is that 54 is the number reached the most often (7 times)
you can say players have been dancing around 53 & 55 for a long time.
