Came across this I believe it is from about 1890 based on team photos I have seen of the team and their uniforms at the time. Not very good at picking out players but it look like him third from left top row. I would appreciate educated opinions as a number of members are very familiar with players of this period. Very nice piece glad I tucked it away

Thank you in advance
Jonathan

Different jersey and cap for the portrait vs. the team photo.

In any case, can you post a larger/higher res scan of the team?

Sorry only version of Photo I have is posted. I did see a series of cabinet photo's in REA that matched the uniform exactly and that is why I think same guy different year / Uniform

Portland

The 1890 black and white photo you posted shows the Portland, Oregon team. The REA link you posted shows Portland, Maine players.

As I stated I am not very good at this sort of thing which is why I asked for help. The 1890 photo had a tag to a player born in Maine and was identified only as Portland 1890. Further research had team identified as the webfeet of Portland so makes sense that was a west coast team. last night I also came across this 1891 Portland (Maine team photo) but this player to my eyes dose not appear. As for photographer there is none identified. In the short term identifying the player dose not matter not for sale not going to be in my lifetime. But in the last 120 years this Player lost his name and I would like to give it back to him for the folks that will own this in the future.
