Yes. He would add an extra "L". He was Satchel Paige. One " L" just wasn't enough.

Really cool, just checked examples, looks like about half the time he would... Is that right?

I know little about autographs. However, I looked for a nice autographed Paige photo for quite awhile. It seemed that the more vintage versions were "LL" and for what it's worth they seemed to command a premium. I picked up mine in a trade here with another member. It was personalized and dated to 1941 and was the LL version.

I completely concur with Mike on this.
The fountain pen Satchell Paige vintage signed luggage tag that I own is most likely from Satch's tenure with the KC Monarch's. This tag was also a pickup from another fellow member on net54.

I remember that photo! Mike is 100% right.

Thanks again Derek. It hangs on my office wall and will never leave my collection while I am above ground.

When that photo came up at auction I passed because of the extra 'L', even though it was clearly vintage and the autograph looked perfect. I came so close to bidding on it that I was afraid to bring up the '2nd L' discussion here on the board. It ended up going for a song and I'm really glad Mike ended up with it...as long as he sells it to me someday :)

FWIW, he also typically added a second "m" in the word "from" (on balls with the salutation, "Best Wishes Fromm Satchell Paige")
